Would like expert opinionS before I SEND PCGS
all the die polish marks matched up , bar/teardrop bottomright end horizontal bar of the 4 is present. would like expert opinions if this is the 1964 sms and if so do I put ms# or sp# TO GET PCGS'S ATTENTION SO IT IS PROPERLY LOOKED AT NOT JUST GRADED WITH ATTRIBUTION OR DESIGNATION ON LABEL. Not a SMS and not worth sending to PCGS. ;)

It's your money, do what makes you happy. :)

Edited to add: If you do send it in you would want to use 1964 SMS (#6844) on the submission form.

    WHY LUCKY AS OP? sARCASM?

  • the bump under the 4 is not a good diagnostic. That chip occured while they were being minted, some of them don't have it. Its all about the die polish lines. Get a good camera/lens or at least get a loupe and one of those flexible arms with a clamp so you can take better pictures.

You have found two extraordinarily rare/impossible coins. You must be incredibly lucky. In fact, I think @ianrussell is trying to hide the truth from us and I'm definitely going to find a 1975 No S Dime in my pocket change.

    This has been “peak weekend.”

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

Send them in. Nothing at risk but the grading fees.

Not true, only one of three things will happen.

    1. The post office/courier/PCGS will steal his coin to enrich themselves.
    2. PCGS will switch out his true SMS with a regular coin.
    3. PCGS will get it wrong even though OP knows he is right

    🙄

    🤣

Ask yourself this - if the "SMS" coins were worth significantly LESS than a regular mint state issue, would you still be trying to convince us this was an "SMS"?

    🤣

  • it will be shuffled back to me no attribution or designation SO frustrating sending back coins for attributions. Im thinking ANACS take time and do reserarchget it right the first time!!!I live in CANADA have been using pcgs or ngc.
ANACS be alright ? they say they properly research and are good for error and variety attributions.

    1. A star goes dark.
  • Well at least OP tried to get better pictures to show us. Not quite good enough, but better. I think I even see some of the die polish lines. A cheap USB microscope can be a good investment. You can turn off its lights and use a flashlight and wave it around while recording video and pause on the frame that shows the die polish line you're looking for, if its there.

Look, I get it, 99% of the time someone thinks they found something really rare they're wrong, but guess what, you will 100% never find what you don't look for.

    1. Insure your parcel or do grading at a show.
    2. Take high quality pics, print them, mail them to yourself. The postmarked envelope with the pics is legal proof.
    3. It happens! Look at the story of the 1921 Peace dollar proof found on ebay over on CAC forums. PCGS didn't attribute it a proof, so they resubmitted to NGC who did give it the attribution. Thats an inexcusable mistake on PCGS's part, the reeding on Peace and Morgan dollars leaves no doubt on proof vs circulation strike. Every grading company makes mistakes though.

Congratulations, you found one thing that we know absolutely positively won't happen. You have a 100% guarantee that PCGS will attribute this either as an SMS strike or as a business strike.

It's pretty clear that you won't agree with their attribution, but they WILL attribute it.

  • OP since you have a usb microscope why don't you show us the motto on the obverse. Its a DDO on the SMS. Not sure if its unique to the SMS though.
