If you suddenly came into serious money, what toy would you splurge on?

Here's mine...although I'd probably buy a '58 corvette too, but this one really does it for me.
In the Fall I'd fly all over New England at about 1,000 feet and just love lookin' at the foliage.

The plane would go for about $150k+. Gotta add buying at least 10 acres in Maine where I'd have a 2,000 foot strip to fly in and out of. Maine in the Summer and Fall is hard to beat. I'd make easy day trips to see Perkdog, maybe play some BJ and pick up a box of lobsters.

How much are we talking? If its billions im buying a sports team. If its more realistic Id get a place in Texas or FL with a boat and just hunt and fish a lot

Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007

I would focus every penny on getting Gary Busey’s face on Mt. Rushmore. And I would clean up the mess of rocks at the bottom.

I didn't mean for you guys to use the word "toy" literally. The biplane isn't a toy, it is one helluva fun plane to fly and enjoy.

  • GroceryRackPackGroceryRackPack Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭✭✭

    I'd still take that 610 & 660...🔌🏈

and then go buy more Iron...🏋️🏋️

  • I recently came upon a few million and every penny of it will go towards the future generations. There’s no greater fun than helping the family.

I have looked at that before. Id prefer more of a coastal spot as I do really enjoy the ocean, I always kind of go back and forth with maybe like a rental for deep sea fishing in Key West and then something more north for the rest of it.

I'd get a genuine 52 Mantle. Because it sure would be an upgrade from the 52 Mantle digital image I have stored in the pictures section on my computer. 😆

I’m easy and nostalgic. Had to sell my 1993 Mustang GT convertible when I started a family in 2000 - I’d chase that thing down and do my best to restore it. Looked like this with a black top and black interior.

Not a 'toy' in any sense, but I'd definitely do the Antartica trip to get closer to all 7 continents.

I have seen the elephant in my day so I guess all I would do with the money is find doctors to repair damage to our health ( my wife and I) as without your health you have nothing !

The Sebastian area is nice, right at the inlet. Old Florida feel coastal town.

I am a collector. of many things. I collect sportscards first and foremost, and I also collect books. I also like firearms and edged weapons and have all of those I will ever need/want. If I had a million, just to spend on "toys" and did not have to do anything responsible with it? easy question.

I am getting a Brady Champ Ticket.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I just hope that when ya pay off the girlfriend's house, and she receives the official title all in her name, she doesn't then say to you, "Perkdog we have to talk."

i think you've got a great girlfriend there from your nice comments about her. But women in general can be the most devious creatures on the planet. 😂

Usually the ban hammer is easy to figure out. This one is a puzzler. Perhaps he was spamming members in PM's? - just a total guess.

I'm not sure which "toys" I would buy but a Brady Champ ticket would be very high on my list too. I'd probably search out high grade copies of quite a few of blue chip rookies from all four sports. My MJ collection would definitely grow considerably.

Ah, the team has a current value of $4.5 billion. I think you might have to dip into your 401k to pull this off.

Something is definitely wrong at the top. It's kinda like the election, I can only push one button, so, I really don't get overly crazy over stuff I can't change or fix.

This doesn't count as a toy (I wouldn't mind though trying to collect all the GoBots (don't laugh) and maybe the first couple of Power Rangers MegaZords and one of those 80s Voltrons or something) but my whole life since I started collecting cards (I consider my starting point as 1999/start of college as that's when I was first able to get full sets to put in binder/pages) all I wanted to do is to do the early 70s/60s Topps sets. I'm perfectly content in my cozy two room apt (which is about the nicest safest one possible in my area for many reasons), I don't drive (long story) so a shiny black Cadillac wouldn't do much good, and I've never really been a clothes/fashion sort of person (perfectly content with T-shirt/shorts/sweatpants) so that's out. And folks often go all in on super giant TVs and latest electronics...but I've always found retro/vintage tech/video games far more interesting. So for my purposes at least, the only thing I'd be at all interested in splurging on is my collections, especially baseball/football/b-ball card sets.

Really all I want is to see how far I can go in my card collection (and to a lesser extent other collections like retro video games and silver coins). And I'd be perfectly content to "match the decade" in terms of how I'd want the sets. For example, I'd want early 70s sets to be mostly raw NRMT or better in binder/pages but with HOFers/CLs as PSA 7s. For 60s same deal applies but I'd be perfectly content with PSA 6s for the HOFers, and so on. I just think paying easily 2x/3x per card for the next highest grade in these cases isn't really worth it (for example I can't imagine a 1971 Topps PSA 8 looks 3x better than a PSA 7 to justify them easily being at least 3x the price) and that money would be much better spent on say, going on to the 50s sets (HOFers in PSA 5 at most). And yes, I've planned all this, this journey nearly all my adult life and should I someday, somehow, be blessed with this kind of chance, that's exactly how I'd want to do it.
