The Milwaukee Brewers have called up Brewer Hicklen from Triple-A; this marks the first time the Brewers have had a player named Brewer on their roster.
What other teams have had at least one player with the same name as the team?
Here are the three I can immediately think of:
Phillies - Dave Philley
Padres - Johnny Podres
Cardinals - Jose Cardenal

Jim Brown comes to mind.
And if my avatar played football, he might have landed with the Houston Oilers.
1st thing that I thought of...
I was thinking of baseball only, but yea, let's go Big-4.
Weren't the Cleveland Browns actually named after their first head coach, Paul Brown?

I'm still disappointed that Miroslav Satan never played for the New Jersey Devils.

Too bad that Andre never played DL for the Giants.
Elijah Pitts never played for the Steelers.
Enjoy the go.
John Buck was on the Pirates for a year….does that count?
Didn't Jim Brewer pitch for them in the 70's??
Matt
Unfortunately not.
I always thought it was “heh” funny that Nap Lajoie played for Cleveland when they were called the Naps - they were called the Blues when he first joined the team. Then at some point I looked it up and they were renamed for Larry. It wasn’t as fanciful anymore.
Steve Young is actually a direct descendant of Brigham Young.
