I have a large amount of 1979D Lincoln cents that I finally got around to looking for the no FG initials and found this. What is your thoughts, mint issue or wear? I don't see evidence of the F... Let me know what you think and thanks. Joe

    Hi Joe,
    Pretty cool discovery!
I'm not aware of any diagnostics of the '79 NO FG, but sweet. I do know of the 1969 NO FG. You might have something there?

While I'm sure you are aware, the missing initials are the result of over polishing of the die. While I guess it could be possible I have a hard time seeing how a mint worker could have polished the F completely off while still leaving that much of the adjacent G still showing. So it seems far more likely that the letter F was not struck up due to debris or grease that filled that in on the die as opposed to some new "no FG".
