Very cool piece of historic memorabilia, no doubt, but for 24 Million dollars? I don't know if I'd ever make the same purchase if I had that type of money to just drop on ,whatever lol. You could probably purchase a nice sized island somewhere and build it into your own little continent if you wanted at that price. Who am I kidding though, if you're spending that much on a shirt, you probably already own that island.

I never knew Perkdog had that kind of money? I'll have to start being nice to him. 😉

Just my opinion. But I find it hard to believe that Ruth would have put this jersey aside over that called shot? I mean Babe Ruth was an "event" in almost every game he played with the Yankees.

I didn't read the provenance story, IE proof, about how they determined this was the exact jersey. Unless Ruth wore the same jersey the entire season, then put that jersey aside as the one he wore throughout the season.

But I would have to believe Ruth had a number of jerseys throughout the season. Therefore in my view it would just be a guess as to if this was the actual jersey.

Interesting article about this auction which I just read. The article basically agrees with my premise about provenance, but I wasn't aware of the photo-matching techniques.

"Heritage has provided documentation for Ruth bidders, including an April 2019 letter from Resolution to the New Jersey consignor stating: "In our opinion, the alignment of the buttons and seam with the custom stitched 'Y' in the 'New York' lettering on the front of the jersey appear to be approximately the same on the jersey worn by Ruth in multiple images analyzed as compared to the jersey presented to us."

Not sure that I'd bid 24 million for "approximately", but since I don't have anywhere close to 24 million dollars, doesn't matter to me anyway. 😆

In any event, I'm glad to see a positive evolution taking place in authentication of these type of items, because as I think we all know, sports memorabilia, particularly vintage, has been ripe with too much fraud for a long time. 👍

Big, heavy guy like that playing baseball all summer? Yeah, he definitely wore many jerseys throughout the season and they were probably washed repeatedly. I'm skeptical too but does it really matter when someone was willing to spend that much money on a piece of clothing, even if it has a story attached to it? 🤣

Let's see the film of the called shot!
Some say he was only pointing at the Cub dugout who were harassing him badly
So said others and the cub picher , Charlie Root. I think he or someone else. wrote a book about his career.
Story maybe exaggerated! Buyer may have paid for a fantasy story.

Anyone who can spend $24m on a jersey is proof of how utterly broken capitalism is.

I do not have time for ignorant trolls.
