Package That Was Sent to PSA Was Returned

Has anyone recently had a submission package returned by the USPS? I doublechecked the Newport Beach mailing address and can't figure out why it was returned. The reason cited says "Return to Sender, Refused, Unable to Forward, Return to Sender"

Shipping box is damaged but contents were not.

I wonder if seeing that the box was damaged, PSA refused it as they didn’t want any liability if contents were damaged? Or basically easier to just refuse it and have it go back to you.

That would be a possibility it seems. Thanks.

Wonder if I will need to pay for shipping again, but I will make sure I talk to a USPS rep prior to re-shipping.

If the box arrived damaged, then for sure PSA rejected it and kicked it back (not sure how they do this with tons of packages each day. I wonder if the USPS branch side sorts the funny looking ones for them.) There have been reports of packages that were sent with reused amazon and regular shipping boxes where they are re-taped getting kicked back due to fear of tampering/re-sealing. They also don't want to have to deal with damaged cards, they rather you find out yourself that they got damaged in shipping so that you don't accuse PSA of damaging them.

You will have to pay to ship it again as the USPS did their job, twice in fact as I assume they didn't charge you for the return!

One has to hope when the damaged box is returned it does not incur further damage on its way back to the original owner.

A few months ago, I fixed up a sub in a once-used box that I would describe as “A minus” shape (practically no noticeable flaws whatsoever). It was refused as yours was, and came back in basically the same shape as it had been sent. I then learned from this board not to reuse boxes for subs, however, it still perplexes me, as the box was in such solid shape.

It was probably the re-taping they were concerned with, not the box. Two issues at play, they don't accept damaged boxes because they don't want the headache of damaged cards. They sometimes kick back reused boxes because they are concerned that they are tampered with and re-taped by the perp! I have a feeling a re-used amazon box would not raise an issue as they would have to be re-taped to be used for a PSA sub....

PSA could just state why, but where is the fun in that.

I have learned that if PSA had been more specific that they were refusing the box (which was a new USPS box) because it was received damaged, that the USPS would have re-shipped in a new box at no cost to me.

Instead, I have had to pay to have shipped again in a new box.

This is one of the benefits that you pay for with professional shippers. FedEx and UPS will repackage damaged boxes. I do not trust USPS. I received a delivery notice that a package was lost from USPS on August 19th. The package was delivered in June. Thankfully I received a delivery notification that it was delivered on August 21st. So now in tracking the same package shows as delivered twice. Proof of the multiverse I’m sure. It’s worth the money to use the shippers in my opinion. Especially with FedEx where Air is both guaranteed and ridiculously cheap because they have planes to fill.

Since Jan 1 of this year FedEx has lost 6 of my packages. Yes 6! I will never give them the chance to do so again.

If a merchant won't use USPS or UPS then I won't purchase from them.

Which service level do you use? As FedEx isn't federated, yet, that determines whether you're using Express or Ground - assuming you are not using Freight or Custom Critical for your cards..

I had this happen with FedEx and they did not repackage and forward to
PSA. Instead they mailed it back to me and I paid the shipping cost again.

Well I’m no shill for the big shippers. It’s too bad your experience is like that. I’ve always had excellent results with FedEx. I even use them for 3PL.

I also have had far too many bad experiences with Fedex so have my several neighbor friends on my block. I don't care an iota about specifics minutia of which Fedex service etc, I avoid them like the plague.

Unfortunately in my suburban area UPS is not much better.

In all my life only a single USPS parcel has not made it's way to me. Whenever I have an issue I call my local postmaster who more than once has sent someone from her location to retrieve a bounding (when a package ping-pong between multiple post offices) priority package. They then will hold for me until Sat when I'm able to get down there. Try to get that personal touch from the thoroughly vile personnel at Fedex or UPS!

And the only time I’ve ever had a package damaged in transit intentionally was with the USPS so I guess we have a paradox. Mt point with respect to service was that FedEx isn’t just FedEx. It’s FedEx ground and FedEx express. So they’re two different companies and your packages have been delivered by different drivers. Hate em all you want but.. now you know.

There is a big difference between FedEx Ground and Express. The packages go to different locations and transport methods. Ground is by truck and train, like UPS. Train Cars get broken into, trucks get broken into. Express would be more like USPS registered in comparison! (i'm generalizing!)

Same NYSE FDX stock ticker, same firm!

BTW: My last lost Fedex was an overnight. Will never use ANY of their services again!

I should have just said that, if you look at USPS, UPS, and FedEx, the USPS loses the most packages, has the worst OTP metrics in the industry, and has abysmal customer service ratings in aggregate compared to FedEx and UPS. If your personal experience with anyone is terrible, don’t use them, but there’s no comparison in quality between USPS and the others overall. It’s not even close.

ugh -- I just checked my tracking and my order was refused and is being sent back to me -- I sent it in a box with some other company logo on the outside, but the box was taped securely and there should be no reason it was refused. If PSA is going to refuse boxes unless they have absolutely no logos or writing on the outside of the box, then they need to make that known to all of the people who submit cards to them. If the package isn't damaged, who gives a flying %^$$* what the box says on the outside.
