Oklahoma State Football...this has me scratching my head.

Starting this season, players will wear QR codes on their helmets linking to the program’s NIL money pot to increase the amount.

These machine-readable codes will be 1.5-inch decals with each player’s name and number. According to the Associated Press, the codes will appear on each player’s bag tag. Players carry the bags during the pregame before home games and for travel.

The launch of the QR codes on the helmets will debut in the Cowboys first game of the season against South Dakota State on August 31. The decals will be visible in close shots during television broadcasts and postgame pictures shared on social media.

The Associated Press noted that Oklahoma State thinks this is the first time that a college football team will wear the QR codes during regular season games.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy told the AP that he thinks the QR codes on helmets is a "revolutionary step" to keep the program ahead of the game while supporting the NIL efforts of the team.

I’m not sure how I should feel about these QR codes. It seems a little weird. Perhaps even off-putting.

Yeah, so not enough to buy a ticket and wave a pennant. Now you are expected to pony up to get a winning team on the field.

I have been a longtime proponent of allowing players to be compensated, but of course the details have made it a mess.

Seems tacky to me. Bring back the good old days when players were paid under the table.

Its funny but not sure hoe effective it will be given how far fans are from the players and that theyre moving when wearing helmets. Seems like it would make more sense to have it on the back of seats or signs around the stadium

I envision them pausing on a helmet of a player on tv after they make a big play so I can run up to my TV and show my fandom.

Maybe they will do something where the players with the most donations on their QR get more throws or handoffs!

bgr is correct. Every year we have a college football thread. No need to start multiple threads.

I was not trying to make a big deal of it. I just wanted to let you know it was being discussed elsewhere as well.

You were cool. Stanley was trying to protect his thread. That is understandable as well.

Some stuff though the season though will warrant a new thread. Probably a cheating scandal of some sort or a late season coronary as a fat head coach gets doused with Gatorade.
