My new submission to our host.

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,116 ✭✭✭✭✭

Last Monday I mailed 18 coins to our host for grading and True View. The coins are a mix of MS circulation strike, SMS and proof US coins dated from 1917 to 1967.

The package was received on 8-14-2024 and today the submission was logged in by our host.

It will be interesting to see the grades and designations these coins receive [two of them are SMS varieties]; and it will be interesting to see if the True View photographs of the coins are high quality or not.

I'd wager NOT. When was the last time "high quality" was attained?

😱 Oh boy….. I’ll say a prayer for your TVs!

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

The real question is why you would even entertain the idea to pay for photos given the recent feedback on the poor quality.

    Hope springs eternal.

Maybe, just maybe my submission will trigger a True View Renaissance, or Rebirth B)

If they come back as poor as the past ones, let me know and I’ll see if I can help you out.

FWIW, my coins were delivered to CACG on 8/14 and have yet to be logged into the system.

The real issue is how much does a terrible TV affect the sale of a coin down the road. I see a bad TV as a boat anchor, I always do a cert verification on a PCGS coin prior to a purchase. A poor TV could easily cause me to pass even though I know that the TV service is a problem. I realize that not every buyer does this but some do.

Even if the seller has their own spectacular photos?

Usually for me the seller's photos aren't great but the TVs allow me to make the buy/sell decision. Although the newer TVs don't look great, in most cases they still allow me to assess and know the coin's surface preservation which is what I care about most. Would I love it if the TVs were better for my digital photo album? Of course. But I don't really have an alternative. Some could say CACG is an alternative, but I'm not about to send my collection there for crossover to have 3/4 of the coins come back a grade lower or Details for some minor issue I haven't noticed or cared about.

I learned yesterday that a recent submission of SMS and 1968-1970 proof coins has been completed; and that the True View photos of the submitted coins show the Cameo contrast and toning well.

When my recent submission is graded and photographed I will post the results.

I submitted six at Baltimore... they were received on 6/21. I'm still waiting to progress to Grading but it should be any day now...

For myself that is an even greater concern, which set of photos is correct? Are the seller's photos altered to remove the pronounced yellow that has been so much the issue with the TV?

Great coins. You have a keen eye for quality. :)

The SP68 1966 cent is an absolute stunner.

I am looking forward to the results of your recent economy submission.

It was my submission that Kevin mentioned. Not only did I get some pretty solid grades, but my TrueViews were also of consistent quality to when Phil was there. For what it's worth I did include a note on the submission form to photograph the coins to highlight the cameo contrast. Here is a sample of the images I received.

I went to Coinfacts to check how Trueviews for SMS cents look. Yours was the first one that showed up. Congrats on the top pop 23/4

My 4 coin Modern submission quickly went from received to grading. Yesterday the 4 coins progressed to being imaged.

This submission is moving quickly :)

I have an Express with Variety order that was received 8/13, moved through grading into encapsulation on 8/15 and has been stuck there since🫤

I also have another express order that was delivered on this past Tuesday 9/3 and still hasn't been put into the system as received 😡

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,116 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just checked and my 4 coin Modern Submission is now in Encapsulation.

It was received on 8-19-2024 and is now 20 days into the grading process. The turn around time for this submission is much faster than I experienced last year. :)

Another 8 coins (sent in with a Voucher) in my 8-19-2024 18 coin submission have progressed to Encapsulation. I expect that these coins will move into QA by early next week.

The remaining 6 coins (an Economy submission) is still in Received.

The four coin Modern Submission has been returned and I am pleased with these results:

Grades have posted on my 8 coin voucher submission. As have True View photos.

Overall I am pleased with the results (I had doubts the Walker would straight grade :/ ; and the dividing line between a brilliant proof and a Cameo proof is a mystery)

Today the grades on the 6 coin Economy submission received on 8-19-2024 finally posted. Overall I am pleased with the results. Will post True View photos when available.

    1 1 50895391 84185 1953 5C, CAM PR67CA USA
    2 1 50895392 4188 1956 5C PR67 USA
    3 1 50895393 84192 1960 5C, CAM PR68CA USA
    4 1 50895394 5225 1950 10C PR68 USA
    5 1 50895395 5226 1951 10C PR68 USA
    6 1 50895396 85996 1964 25C, CAM PR67CA USA

The 1956 nickel is an attractive toner that will be a great addition to a toned Registry 1956 Proof Set.

The 1953 nickel, the 1960 nickel, the 1950 dime and the 1951 dime will upgrade my Registry Sets for those years.

What about the 1960 quarter? I am looking for one.

True View photos have posted. They quality of the photos is not very good, especially the toned 1956 nickel. In hand all of the coins are more eye appealing than they appear in the photos.

    To ProofCollection

I have submitted only 1 1960 quarter for grading. It graded PF68DCAM and is in my 1960 Proof Set Registry Set. I have not been able to find any other 1960 proof quarter that warrants a Cameo designation.

So do we think the TV quality has improved? It's hard to tell on proof coins as those are much easier to shoot.
    Nice coins btw @ModCrewman
My last sub left little to be desired including the grades. These two did hit 67 but you couldn't tell by looking at the images.

My recent observation is that they are now trying much hard. It's still hit and miss but the bad photos aren't as bad as they used to be.

I'd have been disappointed with Kevin's last batch of TV's. Nice grades though.
