So... I've got a fake 3 leg 1937-D Buffalo?

Vetter pointed this out over on the BST and now I think he is correct...
This is an altered 3 legger, yes?

    Yes, definitely altered.
    Also looks heavily cleaned and tooled, but those are minor sins in this case.

    Definitely fake. The 1937-D 3-leg buffalo is one of the easiest coins to authenticate since there are several well-known and easily discernable die markers.

    Perhaps I'm being too picky but I'd call it "altered" rather than "fake" (or "counterfeit"). I think it's a distinction worth making.

    I think those scrapes across the body happened when the the tool used to scrape off the leg slipped and cut across the body and elsewhere.

    I’m just glad I was able to point it out to you before a collector purchased it. They would not have been happy once they found out it was altered.
