Tough break for the Vikings. Sam Darnold will now get the chance to try resurrecting his career throwing to a very good group of offensive weapons.

Oh wow my buddy was telling me about this yesterday saying he thought it was only going to cost him a handful of games

Obviously I'm not a Vikings fan but I was really looking forward to seeing how this kid was going to do, that sucks

    Big opportunity for Darnold.

    Sucks for McCarthy.

    That's kinda a Bummer with J.J.

I seriously thought about cheating on 🟥1️⃣5️⃣ and 🟦1️⃣0️⃣ and chase down some J.J. 📦

I hate seeing guys get hurt But Darnold and JJ would have likely performed the same. Addison would be a devastating loss

McCarthy out for entire year. Full tear, not just a clean out procedure.

After losing both Cousins and Jefferson for large portions of last year, injuries play a big part.

We need Hockenson back and the WRs healthy, and of course, especially Darnold.

My next door Neighbor is a HUGE Vikings fans, he is not happy.

He is from Indiana but Minnesota is his team, his wife who is local is on board with the Vikes as well

I've been following the Vikings since the Joe Kapp days.

I was really bummed last year when Cousins went down. Great weapons and FINALLY a decent pass blocking line. I was looking forward to Kirk having a monster year.

Tell your neighbor Darnold was a top 3 pick that went to a horrible team(s).

We have a great chance to not only challenge the Lions, but win the division.

Vikings might sign cornerback Stephon Gilmore, that would really help the defense. A defense that made a huge improvement last year.

    GO VIKES!

    Extremely disappointing.

I only expected 5 to 7 wins this season before the injury. The entire roster is riddled with question marks except for LT1 (Darrisaw), RT1 (O'Neil), WR1 (Jefferson), and the All-Pro Long Snapper (DePaolo).

RB1 (A. Jones) has durability issues, WR2 (Addison) is likely to be suspended & now messed up his ankle, TE1 (Hockenson) is coming off an ACL tear, a rookie Kicker (Reichard) and the interior OL & DL is undersized and weak compared to other squads. Some of these mid-tier free agent signings will need to excel, as the draft has produced very little in many years. Hitting on 1 or 2 players per draft doesn't cut it - unacceptable.

The pass coverage could be absolutely brutal...

Next year: ~$160 million in cap space.

    Enjoy your collection!

I totally forgot about recently drafted CB Khyree Jackson dying in that car crash just a few weeks back too. The Vikings have been hit with some horrible, untimely luck this offseason.

I am a lot more optimistic.

Depending on a first year rookie QB to become your starter is never a good position to be in. Not good that he got injured, but Darnold was a #3 overall pick, so he has a great opportunity to show what he can do with what appears to be a GREAT offense.

The offensive line looks to be fixed (FINALLY), Risner is resigned and will replace Ingram at right guard, Brandel will play left guard. I'm not a fan of Center Bradbury, but with two good guards, he should be adequate.

Last year the defense went from nearly last in the league to #13. Coordinator Flores is back and even though Hunter is gone, we have picked up some promising veteran pass rushers. We need to sign DB Gilmore!

Hockenson's injury should be healed early in the season. Not sure if Addison gets suspended and for how long. If he does it looks like at most 3 games.

Injuries could be a problem, we do seem to have picked up several players who have been hurt a lot.

Detroit will have to prove that they can repeat last years success, Green Bay looks OK, but not great and Chicago is depending on a rookie QB. I have a feeling he's going to struggle.

I think the Vikings will make the playoffs if they stay reasonably healthy, especially at QB. Maybe even win the division if the Lions stumble. After all, they're the Lions. LOL

Looks like they dont believe the Addison injury to be serious. Was ankle not knee, and they think some rest should fix it. As far as the suspension that wont happen until later in the season if it even happens this year. Vikings seem to think any suspension would come in the offseason if there even is one. His first scheduled court date is Oct 7th and they could push that back or just make a plea where theres no charges. The NFL doesnt suspend impact players unless they have too. Itll be interesting to see what deal is made in court

I didn't even know about Addison's DUI arrest until that last comment. Getting popped for that just a handful of days after losing a teammate to a fatal car crash is horrible optics/timing on his part. Regardless of his injury, the NFL should make his penalty a little harsher than normal just to remind these players not to drive while intoxicated. Aren't there literally drivers on standby for situations like that? That Knucklehead should be counting his blessings right now.

DUI penalties are in the CBA. Im not sure if they escalate but its 3 games for a first one. In the past CBAs a player had to be convicted of one in court meaning if the chargers were dropped or they plead to a lesser charge it didnt apply. I believe thats still the case but Im not sure since the old penalty was 1 game and changes were made to it in the last CBA

If theyre going to let Rice play for KC when his crash is on video theres no way they can do anything to Addison

Vikings sign CB Stephon Gilmore to a 1 year deal.
He's 33 years old, but a 5 time pro bowler who's still playing well.
    Go Vikings!

He also won a DPOY not that long ago. He'll definitely improve their defense.

If the new players they picked up on defense can avoid injury, they could be a top 10 defense. They were 13th in points allowed last year. Brian Flores looks like a great defensive coach!

If Darnold proves to be a good QB the offense could be a top 10, maybe top 5 unit. Sam needs to stay healthy for Minnesota to contend for division.

Darnold has played for terrible teams since being thrust into starting from day 1 by the pathetic NY Jets. Now that excuse is gone.

Vikes have a (the best?) top receiving group, top 10 RB and their O line is going to be even better this year with 2 good guards to go with their stud tackles. Ingram was a horrible pass blocker and will be replaced by Risner, a great pass blocker.

Had Cousins and Jefferson been healthy last year they make the playoffs and maybe even win the Division.

The only negative I see is they have a lot of high talent guys (especially on defense) who have had a hard time staying on the field.

    Go Vikings!

Flores really shined with his defensive play calling during his time in NE and even when he was coaching Miami. Belichick never really gave anyone the DC role, in name, but Flores had a voice in how they ran their defense during the SB run of the 2010's. Even his time in Miami saw the defense allow 27ppg the season before he took over, 30ppg in his year one but dropped considerably to 21 per game in his 2nd & 3rd seasons then went up to 23ppg the season after he left Miami. Adding a corner like Gilmore who was voted during Flores time in NE should only help, he's seen firsthand how to use him best.

I do agree that the Vikings have arguably one of the top receiving groups when healthy but Addison being banged up and the news that Hockenberg might not be back till November both will likely affect how the O looks at least for the start of the season.

It really is a shame that McCarthy is down for the year. I know that some members here aren't that high on him but with NE owning the 3rd overall pick and were looking to draft a QB, I spent a good amount of time researching JJ's game (and Maye & Daniels too) and really liked what I came across with him. He wasn't asked to carry the team at Michigan but he was capable of doing whatever they needed him to do. This probably would have been a developmental year for him anyways with Darnold starting and while it sucks to lose that entire season, he's still only 21yrs old. Getting to sit back and learn the NFL game before being thrown out there should pay dividends down the road.

It's a shame McCarthy got hurt, but I was thinking Darnold would be the starter for most, if not all of this season.

I don't think Addison is seriously injured, but we will see. Hockenson is said to be "ahead of schedule". Early November would be worst case scenario, but again, we'll have to wait to see.

I just looked at the Vikings schedule, looks pretty favorable, if you go by opponents records last year.

Only 49ers and Lions had great records. 7 games against teams that had losing records, 5 games against teams with 9-8 records, 2 games against 10-7 squads.

If the Vikes can play .500 for the first half of the season, they have a stretch of 5 games against teams with losing records last year. 3 of them at home.

I think we will win as many as 12 games next year!

    Go Vikings!
