Gold medals supposedly gold either, theyre silver thats gold plated

    Missouri 14 OSU 3

  • It looks like the guy partied with his metal a bit too hard. It looks like he got the metal wet, and it likely saw many hands.
I'm not sure you can blame that one on the manufacturer.

I didn't research it, but I think you're probably right.

I think the Olympic gold medals used to be made out of actual gold, perhaps a 14 or 18 carat. But as almost everything these days, it's become cheapened.

  • The olympics sites the expanding number of gold metals as the reason they cant be real gold.
The gold metal is 99% silver with gold plating.
I cringe when I see winning athletes biting the metal.

Sure they could make the golds 14k for $5000 each. Guessing about 1000 golds are given out (factoring the team medals) that would cost five million dollars. A mere bag of shells in the scheme of things. But they don't.

Considering the billions of dollars these athletes make for the Olympics, and the athletes don't even get paid, I think it's quite shameful on the Olympics part to cheapen the "gold" medal.

Based on the story, they may have even cheapened the bronze metal for crying out loud. What now bronze is too expensive for these cheap bastiges. What is the base metal for that medal, recycled tin cans?

With endorsements many medalists do pretty well. Many countries have paid their athletes and the IOC is starting to as well this Olympics.

I’m curious what the IBA will do with gold medalist boxers now though. Can’t wait for this announcement as I think they have a purse which pays the gold medalists in boxing $100K.

Considering they haven’t had solid gold gold medals since the early 1900s in the Olympics I’m a little surprised this is news. We all knew they weren’t solid gold right?

Its just an excuse to be cheap in an area that doesnt impact the broadcast. They have plenty of time to get the gold for the medals. They dont have to be solid but being plated is a joke

They should be ashamed of themselves. Give them gold or give them death!

Collections coins, medals, mini medals, collectors... From the great dates of our History to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, through the masterpieces of the Louvre or architectural, the craftsmen of the Monnaie de Paris offer you unique collections throughout the year.

Looks like the Paris Mint produces all sorts of coins, medals, etc. Maybe their quality is usually better than those they made for the Olympic games?
