Need some guidance on a PCGS label difference between identical coins.
I need some guidance here. I was at the bank going through some Platinum Eagles in my safe deposit box the other day. There are three 2021s, all MS70 First Strike. Two of them show the PCGS # on the label (the number to the left of the cert. number) as "861557". When you do a Verify on the cert. number of either of these, it shows the PCGS # as 861557, and the Variety as "Statue of Liberty". The third one shows the PCGS # on the label as 861801. When you do a Verify on the cert, number of this one, it shows the PCGS number as "861801 (variety of 861557)" and the variety as "Statue of Liberty First Strike". Wouldn't you expect them all to carry the same PCGS# and show the First Strike designation on the Verify result?
Here are the first two that show only "Statue of Liberty" in the variety description of the Verify result:
Here's the third one it shows a different PCGS# and "Statue of Liberty First Strike" in the variety description of the Verify result:
Anybody got any idea why the difference?

If I'm reading the PCGS website info correctly, 861557 is the basic number for the issue, and 861801 is a "variety" number specifically for First Strike. So, there is some inconsistency.

You've got it right, So that begs the question, why did the first two slabs get the PCGS# for a "basic" variety?

Could simply be a clerical, or "mechanical" error.
Might want to contact PCGS CS and ask what, if anything, they are willing to do to correct the mistake.
FWIW, the two coins currently have different values in the 'PCGS Price Guide' (i.e, $1,421 for the "base" vs. $1,750 for the FS).
Yup, that's why I wanted to try and sort this out, and see if anyone else had run into it.

Just remembered this recent post from @PCGS_Hy about the same subject.

PCGS customer service responded very quickly & requested reverse photos of the two slabs in question.

PCGS customer service sent a shipping label this morning and the two coins are winging their way to PCGS via FedEx; where they will have the mechanical error corrected at no expense to me. Thanks again to @MetroD for steering me to the information I needed.
