Saw a story on the network news tonight about this. Who knew.

Watched a strange velo event yesterday. Began with a motor bike zipping in front of the riders.
Glad these games are ending in a couple days.
Watched the womens yesterday. Was wanting more 'you got served' movie vibe from it. I don't think I like that the music is random, would think they would put a routine together to specific songs but whatever.
Technically, it's called breaking.
A little internet searching will show that over the years there have been quite a few "events" that were either demonstrated or actually included in The Games which are unusual and didn't survive. Breaking strikes me as not quite a Sport or not something that interests me but that's the way the World and the Olympics work. Much like the member who was upset about Simone Biles and Gymnastics the solution is to just not watch it or think about it. That can be tough because this stuff acts like the "car accident" syndrome on the human brain --- the thing we hate is the thing we can't resist, so we look.
Break dancing is a true art form. Whether it should be an Olympic sport is very debatable. I want to acknowledge a group of break dancers from my neighborhood growing up in the 80's. They were called the Northern Breakers, and these guys were absolutely amazing. They were so good they actually made it to the talent show Star Search and performed on national tv.
The IOC is 30 to 40 years late in implementing this "sport" based upon popularity. Watching a sport whereby its results are 100% dependent on judges or subjectivity aren't enjoyable to watch (for me).
I guess pickleball will be introduced in 2060...

To be fair and inclusive I vote that the 2028 Olympics add the following events:
Jacks;
Tiddely Winks;
Marbles;
Mumbly Pegs;
Lawn Darts;
Bubble blowing;
Pick up sticks;
Pinata smashing;
Pumpkin Carving;
Whittling;
Whistling;
Spinning around;
Canon Balling into a pool;
Competitive eating;
Competitive burping;
Competitive spitting; and
Thumb wrestling.
You forgot Ring Around The Rosie.
Gobble.
I also forgot Red Rover
And while we are at it, how about adding competitive stamp collecting, coin collecting, rock collecting, painting, reading and loving.
I would legitimately watch 4 square or competitive eating. That would at least be entertaining. Pickleball will certainly be added in the next Olympics or two.
Its hard to take an Olympics seriously that has break dancing (the dancers arent even good) and doesnt have major world sports like Baseball/Softball

Strangely, this is what has been happening slowly in the NFL. And you are correct, I find that with a lot of the subjective rule changes and dependence on Officiating that I don't enjoy the NFL as much as I once did.

@SanctionII, you should probably know that "Painting" and various other Art forms were indeed included in the Summer Olympics from 1912-1948.
Maywood.
I did recently read an article about the events that were part of prior Olympics that are no longer.
A very interesting read.
Should the Olympics only be about athletic competition?
If not, what other areas of human endeavor should be included so that the global population can see the best of the best in all areas (for example Olympic Lawyering ).
After watching “breaking” in the Olympics I would like to not see that again. Other than in Kickin’ it Old School.
But I would like to see tug of war return.

I would think the answer to that is self-evident, but apparently not. It must lead to the next question: what constitutes athletic competition?? That is something which always comes into my mind when I contemplate such events as Equestrian, Shooting/Archery, Curling, Walking, etc. I'm not so strict as some people who figure that if it doesn't include a ball it isn't a Sport, but I'm close.
It's quite telling to see who is minimizing the talent and skill needed to excel in this sport which is a hell of a lot more athletic taxing than the 'sport' of golf. Probably the same lot who think gymnastics isn't a big deal, either.

I found it to be poorly handled in the Olympics. The judging seemed a little arbitrary. A couple of the routines were ridiculous. The fans didn’t appear to agree with the judges. Read into it however you want but it wasn’t a great introduction. Then again I also don’t think it’s a big deal.
Break dancing is only an Olympic sport if one can gamble on it.😆
For those of you who think golf is not a sport, there is so much that you are missing.
And I suspect this will turn into the typical discussion of what Byron Nelson did in 1945 is nothing in comparison to what is accomplished on the PGA Tour that exists today. And that is fine… give a set of mid 1940’s Tommy Armour blade irons to any current PGA tour player under the age of 28 and see how well they score at Augusta or Riviera. Nelson, Hogan and Snead would likely score better.
Judging is arbitrary…and always will be. And that applies to several Olympic sports. Golf is simply one player against the course and everyone else. And that is the test that matters which makes golf worthy of Olympic competition.
