What caused the doubling on the 1 in the Date on this 10 Centavos coin? The 9 looks like machine doubling but the 1 does not. It appears to be a doubled strike or an additional 1. Your opinions please.

Never seen this before on this date, and i've collected USPI for 50 years. I have Seen and own every variety on this date. So likely a die chip.
Gives an impression of a double die. None know or ever seen of this this type.
My best guess it is a die chip in a very deceptive place.
If in doubt send in to a TPG for another opinion.
Good luck
Here is another oddity regarding this coin, on the I in UNITED and various other letters. I thank you for your information. I doubt that sending it to a TPG without it recognizing a variety in this manner.

Intriguing for sure. The die seems to be pretty degraded, so I would postulate that it’s owing to the poor state of the die, that’s my knee jerk reaction.
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
I did not see the "UTE" PUP doubling photo. This the Allen Variety 9.05c
The split on the serif of the "1" in the date is unusal but probably on some as this is a fairly scarce variety.
I ' ve not seen on theses before. I have only seen a hand full of the Allen 9.05c.
Pcgs should slab it with the variety on the label.
I think that the OP's coin is a die chip as well.
