Is there hope for this coin? 1999 wide am.

I have in hand the coin shown in the photos. I only paid 15 for it. Will an over nite swim in the acetone help. I appreciate any and all help as you have been in the past. Thank you!

    It's toast.
Of course, nothing will further harm the coin at this point, so soak it and hope that the white stuff on the obverse is glue.
I'm not entirely convinced this is a WIDE AM, by the way. Could just be the uncropped, blurry photos though
    Good luck

Thanks for the feedback. Must be the photos, 100% wide AM. Have had quite a few of them.

It is 100% a 1999 WAM. Soaking it in acetone might help get rid of
the white stuff whatever it is , it certainly can't hurt it.

I cannot tell if it is a WAM or not from these photos, but I am also wondering if that white stuff is the zinc core showing through. If so it could in fact possibly hurt the coin.

Zinc cents don't clean well. ;)

You could try warm water and dish soap, if that doesn't do anything try acetone.
If neither of those help you are out of luck.

I wonder if someday someone will start replating zinc cents the way they did with WWII steel cents. 🤔

Won't work very well. The zinc core corrodes faster so you'll end up with a copper coated beach scene.

    waste of acetone and effort

    heavy corrosion

best you can do is seal it tight in a 2x2

    $15 or 15 cents?
How many PM's did you get from members to buy coins? :D

The only "DIP" that can help that coin is in a "Wishing Well" ;)

Faith , hope , charity. I lost the first two after viewing. You paid fifteen? That’s charity. Greatest of the three. Although, it is the toughest of the 3 (‘’98, ‘99, ‘00 ). There is that.

  • Thanks for the advice. I soaked them in acetone. Before and after pics.

    An improvement for sure. :)

    Still a problem coin. :/

  • Thanks! Still cheap. Somebody can use this to fill a hole. I already have one in AU.

Looks a lot better. But still a hard sell in that condition I would imagine.
At least you're only in it at 1500× face. :D

Perhaps an EBay auction under a new user name, price starting at $500.00? :#
