Did Anyone Attend the Registry Dinner at the National?

If so, I'd be interested to hear your experience. Was there a Q&A? If so, any interesting questions and answers?

  • Was a nice event. No Q&A per-se, more of a social event with some cocktails and dinner and then Dominque Wilkens was there and did a little talk about some of his playing days. They talked a little bit about how they are updating the registry application.

Did they mention anything cool that they were going to change with the registry app or when it would change.

Thanks for the update. They used to do Q&A at these events. I guess they don't want questions these days. It sounds like it was a nice event. They've certainly upgraded the speakers. When I went, they had Jim Crandall (collector) speak.

First of all, congratulations to all of the winners this year. I received the email about the registry dinner and awards presentation, and I couldn’t have felt more detached from what is happening with the registry and such. I know Pokemon is growing, but why have two Pokemon set winners, a Yu-gi-oh winner and a misc TCG set winner as well. There is only one baseball set but the TCG has at least four separate winners? In 2023 a Pokemon set also received the specialty set of the year, so five for that year.

Not only that, but it seems that it is simply a who's who in the awards with a lot of the same characters playing musical chairs from year to year. I am not saying that these people are undeserving, but recognize others for a change. I am not saying that I am deserving of an award, but I certainly have done a few things that are notable. I might not have the #1 set at the moment, but I was the first to complete the Hank Aaron basic autograph set. There was a set this year that stood out to me as being a wtf kind of moment. I wasn't in the category, but if I had been and had a worthy set, I would certainly have felt slighted. Every time that I think that I have something reasonable, the rules change or they eliminate an award altogether. I believed that I had a shot when they had the digital showcase awards and even the top 10 showcases the one year. I made it a point to scan every card that I had on the registry and not only upload them to the corresponding sets, but load them into the digital albums as well. For one of my sets it was about 1200 cards that I scanned and uploaded. Ok, I will get off my soapbox but I just wanted to put my thoughts out there and see if anyone else felt the same.

I went to the Registry event in Atlantic City in 2022. A cocktail/horderves event. There was a bit of a presentation, and they passed out Set Registry award pins to the winners in attendance.

I seem to recall that after The National, they would announce all the Set Registry award winners in some kind of Latest News post and all the sets would then be updated with the little blue winner tags.

Strange that nothing has been updated for 2024 yet.
