Guess the Results - PCGS Regrade Submission: Kennedy Halves & Roosevelt Dimes
I think some of you enjoy these and I thought it might be interesting to post my most recent modern regrade submission. Of my nearly complete Kennedy & Rosie MS collections, I had a few that seemed to be a little under graded, and if bumped to the next grade or given a + would be meaningful. Most except the 2015 were in older slabs before + grades existed. And I wanted TV's (as mediocre as they are nowadays). Anyway, I got my results for these 6 coins, I was thinking it might be fun to reveal the previous grade and have you guess if it upgraded or stayed the same. I will reveal Tuesday night.

Young Numismatist • My Toned Coins
Life is roadblocks. Don't let nothing stop you, 'cause we ain't stopping. - DJ Khaled
OK, so not a very popular post. As with most regrade submissions (for me anyway), the results are usually but not always disappointing. If I didn't want a new holder and a TV it would be a complete waste so in the end, for these coins, it was worth taking a shot because of the other services.
There was only 1 upgrade.

Fun fact: The 2015-D is Pop 1/0 at MS67 in First Strike.
Well, given that now you have these terrible yellow photos that are tied to these coins for all future buyers to see I would still consider this a total waste. I don't follow moderns and pricing so maybe the one upgrade offsets all the cost; I hope so anyway.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
You have to factor in all the aspects. A reholder w/TV is at least $20 while a modern value regrade is $22 + 1% GP (for upgrades). I knew the TV's would be substandard but in this case I have a solid complaint that I did send in to them and I'll see how it resolves. I struggle to describe bad pictures but yellow pictures - that's pretty undeniable and hard for PCGS to defend so I'll see what they say. Interesting the half dollars - particularly the 2015 - in hand you don't notice any toning whatsoever but that picture makes it look like there's a large patch of toning.
Also, the chance for an upgrade has value even if I don't realize that value. It's like saying a lottery ticket was worthless because you didn't win. True, you lost the price of the ticket but you had a chance at a reward and the chance has a non-zero value. I also learn something each time. It helps to have the TVs. In hand I couldn't really tell but in a big high res photo I can see the difference between the 66 and 67FB dimes. I still thought the 66 would have been good for a + but I guess not, and I see that the 67 never really had a chance. Plus like I said, I got shiny new holders. So I don't consider it a waste at all overall.
I have found it is pretty tough to get successful modern upgrades, but I try once in a while, too.

Nice coins!
Do you know what caused the yellowish color of the photos?
.
My guess is the apprentice photographer did not set the white balance correctly.

They don't want to disappoint submitters so they will give a plus or whatever positive result if they can.
So I complained about the yellow pictures and they said they could replace them with these alternatives. I said yes of course! Why would anyone want the yellow ones?
First and most importantly, I love your positive attitude about “experimentation”, in addition to your willingness to share the results. This is at least the second separate “issue” where you have done this! Thank you, and kudos to you!!!!
I agree with each component of your rationale, especially the fact that five of six were holdered before the advent of plus grading by PCGS! Finally, you were rewarded with great photos after your positive interaction with the photo department at PCGS. To show my age, here’s a little ad jingle that others from the 1950’s will recognize that I’m reminded of by these photos: “Now I know where the yellow went when I brushed my teeth with Pepsodent”, lol.
