Opinion on a Card Condition Please

Hello, I don't know much about premium cards so I'm hoping for your expert opinions. Recently bought this nice Leaf Auto Patch card, to give as a gift to someone.

It arrived sealed by Leaf so I'm pretty certain what I'm looking at is from the manufacture process. I'm hoping for help with these 2 questions:

1) what do you think it is? In person, and on that closeup with no flash it sure looks like residual glue (but I don't even know if glue is used in the process). I also don't know how common that would be. A close up with the flash makes it look less like glue and more like some kind of damage (heat maybe).

2) based on your opinion of #1, how best to handle it? If glue, or something fixable - how best to correct that? If it's more likely to be unfixable, how do you think that affects it's value/grade?

My gut tells me looking at this think in person, and that closeup photo without the flash, that it's residual glue. And how best to handle is to ignore it, unless someday I'm sending it in for grading, might as well crack that leaf seal and gently wipe it with a wet cloth. But again - I don't know anything about these premium cards and what this likely is, which is why I'm hoping for more expert opinions.

Thank you!

Thanks for the welcome. Any thoughts on the card? Maybe I'm being picky, but maybe I'm not. Really not sure being so new to the hobby; thinking experts probably have a good opinion on what it is, how to address it, and if it really matters or not for grading/value.

So which is it? Is it a gift, or are you keeping it?

  • it's a gift to my kid; which is why it would be me sending it for grading if it ends up going that way someday. I have a hunch it might someday since we just sent a stroud RC in and the hobby is getting it's hold on him

I recommend you leave it in the Leaf case and give it to your son.

Unless you are experienced at "cleaning" cards, cracking it out and trying to clean it seems really risky. If it's dried glue, trying to clean it will likely result in more damage and a grade you will not be happy with. That residue may take the blue color with it!

It's a great looking card, already encapsulated and protected. I don't see a huge upside in getting it graded.

Thank you for the feedback! You're right, didn't consider how it may not be so easy to clean off long-dried glue...

So, is what it is. **How do you think this glue spot (and another less noticeable one - top right corner of the patch cutout) would affect the value of the card (I didn't pay a discounted price due to any issues) and the grade it would receive (good chance my boy will want to send this to PSA...)? **

Separately: am being overly picky here? Maybe I'm a bit neurotic, I dunno. I'm new to the hobby and don't know how common something like a bit of glue on the surface of a jersey card is?

(FWIW: these leaf magnificence cards have 1 card per box and cost ~$500 per box // I paid $700 for this card)
