I think later in life he changed his name...

Come on, it's only a joke.

Despite the fact that I never personally liked Ali, I do acknowledge that he is the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.

Ali's prime versus any other heavyweight boxer's prime, I don't see anyone beating him.

Disagree. He looked bad against Norton and Frazier showed him who was boss. He also got beat by a bum Leon Spinks.

The Spinks fight was towards the end of his career.

The Norton and Frazier fights were coming off the time missed when Ali was striped of his title because he refused military service. I think it was around three years lost of his prime.

Joe Frazier is my favorite boxer of all time, but I have to admit, and I've always admitted it, that Ali was better...the best ever.

Look, I hate having to defend an arrogant cuss like Ali, but the facts are the facts.

Ever notice these Ali backers always give him credit for beating Spinks, but make excuses for him losing to him. You cant have it both ways :D

Despite the accolades that Marciano has received over the years, I actually believe that he is underrated. In any era, with the power Rocky possessed, he could have adapted to any boxing style and been successful. Just not against Ali.

Foreman would have perhaps rated himself a bit more, but overall he wasn't going to change his stripes. The second fight would have probably lasted longer, but the end result would have been the same. George eventually getting totally exhausted again, and Ali coming in for the quick kill.

What many people don't know is Ali could take a punch. He didn't get hit in the head much, but he took many tremendous body shots and still was able to keep his hands high and throw punches.

Foreman destroyed Fraizer and Norton in 2 rounds, Ali knocked out Forman after taking everything big George could throw at him.

Norton won 1 of 3 fights with Ali and that was a split decision.

Fraizer won their first fight then lost the next two.

Ali didn't train for his fight against Spinks and lost a split decision and then beat Leon badly in their second fight.

Ali, like most boxers hung on too long, but in his prime and even after, was the best ever.

A lot of people say Norton won all 3 fights with Ali and ALi admitted he lost the 3rd fight. The stats show that Norton landed more punches in the 3rd fight. Norton got robbed.

Great heavyweights because there are so few great ones at any one time, in a long career, windup fighting a lot of bums, tomato cans, or whatever they may be called.

Ali's ability to take a punch which JoeBanzai mentioned was legendary. But not only that, his hand speed, foot speed, and stamina were remarkable for a heavyweight. Plus he was smarter, often much smarter than his opponents. Ali absorbed the tactics and guidance of his long time trainer, the great Angelo Dundee like a sponge, and employed it in the ring.

I sometimes laugh at the Ali versus Mike Tyson comparisons. Ali would have toyed with Tyson like a cat with a mouse, and knocked him out in almost any round.

I agree that Ali would beat Tyson, but early Mike Tyson boxed quite similarly to Joe Frazier. A disciplined Tyson would give Ali trouble, especially if Ali were to take him lightly.

Ali's biggest problem was when he didn't take his opponents seriously.

Once Tyson gave up his early style and turned into a brawler, he would have zero chance against Ali.

Yea, when Cus passed, Mike became quite undisciplined both in and out of the ring. I still think that prime for prime, Ali beats Mike. But ya got me thinking, and perhaps early Mike could have given Ali trouble. Cus may have seen a possible "flaw" with Ali, trained Mike to look for it, and from there ya never know. So considering that, maybe it could have been close. One thing for sure, it would have been a helluva fight.

The first Clay/Ali-Liston fight tells you all you need to know about a focused Ali.
