He's likely done for good or at least nearly so at this point. 8 great seasons, he's basically Dale Murphy with twice the peak. He will get to 400 career homers but 500, which seemed like an absolute certainty a few years ago, is a pipe dream.

I dont think he will retire before his contract expires, he still has 6 years left. but I dont think he will play much either. similar to Dustin Pedroias last contract
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
He should retire if he's only able to play 45 games a year. His ability to stay on the field (or lack thereof) reminds me of David Wright. He's only going to get worse and break down more frequently going forward and he was never exactly clutch to begin with.

Or he could return in 2025 as Trout of old, the Angels fill in some miracle pieces and win the World Series in 2028 on the shoulders of Trout in the entire postseason. He retires hero. First Ballot.
What was that gum with the unicorn called. The flavor lasted for like 15 seconds and then it was flavorless. That’s been bothering me all day now.
Fruit Stripe
My Mother would take me us to Toys R Us in the 70's to go birthday shopping and I would always get a jumbo pack of Fruit Stripe. Like you two said for the first 15 seconds it was the best gum ever. I would try to put it in the freezer at least once to try and regain some flavor!

Angels winning the World series in a few years is about as likely as Anthony Rendon starting to actually play again and become a hall of famer.
That was a zebra not a unicorn
It’s got a horn so I went with my gut. Unibra is fine though.
They mic’d Trout during the last Angels game and remarkably the conversation with his teammates in the dugout was very similar to the gum conversation here.
Thanks for keeping it real guys and showing what Trout’s days are like these days.
What I mean is Teout is like that gum. But he could be bubbilicious.
In western Montana there is a little town on 90 called St. Regis. This year we stopped at the travel center for the 3rd time with the kids. They do have the best shake ever.
No horn
trout needs to be a DH only now on when he finally able to play.
First time I've ever bought a "500" Home Run auto ball before the player hit it. I was so certain. Bought it from a private signing a year or so ago.

He will still get to 500. He will be a DH but he isn’t going to retire and not get his huge salary. Isn’t going to be the all-timer many (including me) thought. I will finally pick up a Upsate rookie this off-season - if I don’t want the base - what are some of the better ones that don’t break the bank? Confused between Cognac, Red, Blue, etc. like the look of the Red but not sure how ultra-modern collectors view the variations.
Trouty's bat is cooked. They may as well go back to letting pitchers hit if Trouty is the best option to DH. You'd have to pinch hit for him in late game pressure situations, for sure, as he's become the easiest out in the league in those instances.
Trouty has been extra susceptible to the fastball up in the zone for the entirety of his career, already, and as our forum experts always use as an excuse for Trouty, relievers now have more movement and velocity than ever. Trouty couldn't hit it in his prime, then they should get him out of there now and get somebody in there that can. Another year older and another year of not playing, I doubt he improves on that.
Trouty also has rabbit ears. I already knew this was going to be a tough season for Trouty, even without the injuries, if Ohtani left and lit it up with the Dodgers. The Angels fans are already sick of hearing that they supposedly can't field a competitive team because of Trouty's contract. The fans' demeanor about the big contract is not going to get better, either. He's going to have to hear it every time he steps on the field.
I'm not saying he won't even get to 400 homeruns, but I wouldn't be at all shocked if he didn't.
Sounds like I have to do some regression hypnosis to understand why I remembered it differently. Thanks.
Maybe it’s the Mandela effect. Kind of like the monopoly guy’s monocle.
Because of the kids. They called me Mr. Glass.

Prolly will stabilize at 550-650 by end of year
@Nathaniel1960 What was the peak of the afore mentioned card?
I'm a contrarian when it comes to Trout. Believe he will be a .280+, 30-40 HR guy for the next few years and make a couple all-star teams.
Plausible I guess, however he was hitting a mere .220 when he went down this year. In today's game with pitching being what it is .280 is what .300-.310 was in the past - I do not think enough left in tank for him to do that. In addition his speed will be greatly reduced compared to the past due to the knee injury and age no more legging out anything...
More likley he will be pretty much a 3 outcome player when he returns. My guess is best case is .245-.255 , 25-30 HR's , 70-75 RBI's and an OBP around .330.
As a full-time DH, if he plays out his contract, the last 2-3 years his WAR may very be fractional.
Probably un-tradeable given his contract and diminished skills, each at bat he fails to produce when in his home stadium he will hear it from the crowd who now view him and nothing more than dead weight. Given his make up, the negative fan reactions he receives may factor in to him failing to produce at the plate even more.
IMHO the only way for him to go out with at least full dignity is to state next season he plays will be his last. Taking that farewell tour around the league ala Pujols, Jeter, Ripken, Cabrera, Rivera will probably yield a bounce in his card prices. However no way Trout walks away from that amount of money, so it ain't happening.
P.S. I will be glad to be wrong about everything in my post.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Looking at other key stars with rookie cards from the same era - 2010-2017, are there any "locks" for the HOF? Looking at the top 20 active career HR leaders list and WAR list, I think only 3 hitters have a better chance than Trout for the HOF - Aaron Judge, Machado, and Betts.
I'm not sure Harper has a better shot than Trout. Stanton has the most active HRs, maybe 500 will get him in. Would any of the INFs like Altuve, Arenado, and Goldschmidt have a better shot that Trout?
To me Harper, Trout and Betts are locks. Machado may be too Judge still has work to do. When you think about combined pitching and hitting and what he did in Japan and the WBC Ohtani might be a sure thing too.
Is Betts a shortstop now?
I don't follow the NL, I thought he was an outfielder.
Trout had better get healthy and play a few more years, even at a different position. He has 10 superb seasons, but it looks like injuries have gotten worse lately.
I like Betts and Harper, but they will need a few more decent seasons. Other than WAR, Harper seems to be gaining on Trout and Betts is looking like he may eventually surpass both of them.
Despite their comparisons to Babe Ruth, neither Ohtani or Judge have enough seasons played to consider them "locks". Both have had injuries and as you get older, most people get hurt more often. Both are tremendous talents.
I hope they ALL have long careers!
Interesting what if question
If Trout never plays another game, is he a sure HOFer?
3 MVPs and high WAR plus OBP, OPS etc , but his numbers mask his true career.
As Angels fans will tell you he dominated the least important at bats.
I personally feel he's no a doubt 1st ballot HOFer, but one that will be forgotton rather fast due to lack of; big moments, charisma, clutch hitting and post season accomplishments. After all BB's are not something to get nostaglic about.
Bloom is off the rose, unless he has an end cap like Pujols, the only direction his most expensive cards will trend is downward.
altuve has real good chance right now in getting in the hall of fame.
Altuve and Freeman should both get 3,000 hits and both make the HOF.
Betts is almost a lock.
Soto is 1/3 of the way to an all time great career considering his OBP of .422
Acuna was also 1/3 of the way until the injuries.

Soto also gets big hits
Jose Ramirez will be in, and Lindor will have the all time record for homers by a SS - also in. Neither more likely than Trout.
Soto is well on his way.
If he continues to have Post Season success I think Corey Seager will make it as well. I think when the dust settles people will realize he was the best SS of his generation. Not Lindor, Turner, etc.
