you are assuming. I have witnessed people do extraordinary things while under the throes of both extreme physical pain/injury and mental duress/injury. Things that are much more important than swinging on the uneven bars or performing a floor excercise.

I have no problem rooting for her. The difference between Biles and Antonio Brown is pretty simple to me… she was afflicted by an issue that prevented her from being able to determine where she was when flipping through the air. It’s impossible to do the things that gymnasts do when they can’t “feel” where they are - impossible to succeed, and could be extremely dangerous for the gymnast. What could she have done to “suck it up”? Gone out and done simple routines that a 10 year old can do? She was physically incapable of doing everything she had trained for - happened to her several times in her career, could happen again down the road, and there doesn’t seem to be much that can be done to tough it out in the moment.
I’m not a doctor so I don’t know if this is an apt comparison, but I think of vertigo. My brother in law is a triathlete and recently experienced vertigo to the point that he began to question whether he could safely swim / bike / ride. Imagine having vertigo and performing gymnastics in the Olympics? Probably apples to oranges, but that’s how I envision the twisties since I have no experience.
Brown didn’t have something like that pop up and risk his health and well-being - he felt he shouldn’t be playing because of an ankle injury that the team docs cleared him to play through, and he bailed. Did he take a huge head hit and was told “rub some dirt on it and get back in there”? Did he tear an ACL and was told to just tough it out and go play? No, nothing like that. Nothing in his situation changed in the moment that prevented him from playing WR.

I dove, same thing, if I knew I had an issue I knew I was going to hit the water wrong. Taking yourself out is not quitting when you know you will fail. I never didn't dive, but water and a 1" mat on concrete are 2 different animals on the body when you're landing from 10 feet up.

I changed my mind about Dan Marino after his wretched career rushing record was posted.
Still have him as #3 all time though, but now with an asterisk.
Let's talk about Freddie Freeman quitting on the Dodgers. He's not even hurt. His kid is having health issues, not Freddie. Freddie can still hit a baseball. Why isn't Freddie playing. He isn't a doctor. What is he doing at home? His teammates must be disappointed in him. The Dodgers are 1-4 in the 5 games he's been sitting on his butt at home. Freddie has hundreds of millions of dollars and several books out. A couple of mansions. Get out there and play, Freddie!

Having read countless articles and watched countless videos regarding health and nutrition, I am convinced that perhaps over 90% of maladies such as this one discussed about Simone, can be successfully treated and cured by proper diet, vitamin supplements, etc.
In fact the use of prescribed drugs for an affliction such as this, in the long run, can actually overall make things worse, as these type of drugs wreak havoc on the internal organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, etc.
I hope that she underwent a radical change in her diet which helped her get better. We all know that unhealthy food and drink causes various health problems in the body. However it also causes abnormalities to the brain as well.

I highly doubt Simone Biles had an unhealthy diet lol
She is is in Elite shape, and she is in the top tier of the Elite athletes.
It's extremely difficult to pin point what triggers Mental Health issues, it might not even be a medical condition, it could be a past trauma catching up or a new trauma.

This girl was a gymnast, in upper tier shape gorgeous, academically brilliant, got All American in cheerleading and had everything going for her until the wheels fell off.
It was an ordeal that is almost impossible to write down how tough it was

I'd have to analyze Simone's diet to be sure. One thing for sure. Consuming the right food and drink will definitely help, there's no doubt about that.
I'll give ya one recent example. One of my Philly friends told me a few months back that he was developing painful arthritis. He was taking painkillers and other prescribed medicine for it. I told him to email me a list of all the general food and drink he would usually consume in a week. I emailed back my recommendations for changes. Well only around a few weeks later, he emails me back and was astonished, his arthritis had completely gone away, and he no longer needs the painkillers or other garbage his doctor prescribed for him.
You're right, mental health issues are more complex than say curing arthritis. However the basic strategy is still the same. While yes, Simone likely has a "decent" diet since she is a top athlete, there is still a chance that say she has a sweet tooth addiction to say chocolate candy bars or whatever, and that can be enough in some people to trigger abnormal behavior in the brain. That's a fact.
I'm glad your girlfriend's daughter is recovered. Sounds like she has a bright future ahead of her. 😊
Lifetime of training for that event is brutal. Trad off really of a decent life for maybe a medal. Way easier to shoot hoops or bobsled down a mountain.
Points about nutrition are valid, but a million other things are probably going on. Failure is not an option is potent. You can end up with a Tiger Woods, which is a good thing, but he really has some screws loose.

This sounds like exactly what I developed my Mind Tonic to address. But I’ve been having issues getting pure Mercury and this has production of my elixir on hold. I’m a bit of an amateur nutritionist myself so I know exactly what you’re saying. If we’re going to cure a sweet tooth and get her life on track it’s going to require very pure Mercury.
The Cleveland Clinic is one of the Worlds most prestigious medical facilities and renowned for the Doctors there. People come from around the World for the care provided. In the whole scheme of things, I believe it is prudent to trust their opinions as opposed to someone at a chatroom who advocates correcting a mental health issue with diet. In fact, to come here and propose such things which are then accepted as helpful and correct by other members is sort of scary. What seems clear to me is that such members have never experienced mental health issues or had a close friend/family member who suffers in such a way. I hope you never have to.
Mental Health sufferers and Mental Health itself is rather unique. If I fall and break my arm I get treated at the Hospital, people tend to be sympathetic towards my suffering and nobody else is really affected. Not so with Mental Health as demonstrated so clearly here. The Mental Health sufferer is often mocked and ostracized from society, assistance and remedy can be hard to find and harder to obtain, recovery is a very long process and multiple family members and others are adversely affected. Mental Illness affects not only the sufferer but those closest to the sufferer in a way that a physical injury or disease doesn't.
I hope everyone here never has to endure an episode, however brief or long, with a family member of themselves. Please seek medical help and don't try to "self-medicate" or struggle through it.

Agree, that's certainly part of it. But my point is whatever is the inherent problem in someone's life, proper diet and nutrition, resulting in as clear a thinking mind as possible, will help folks to deal with a given catastrophe as well as possible.
Granted in the case of Paul's girlfriend's daughter, the event was so catastrophic for her, probably no diet in the world could have prevented her from breaking down. But in my opinion whatever is the problem, malady, situation, tragedy, etc, keeping one's brain in as sharp a condition as possible, has to be of help in dealing with it.

I figured I'd probably get at least one reply like this, and that's okay. I don't mind at all.
Hey, it’s your body, do whatever ya like. If you like your pain and suffering, you can keep your pain and suffering.
I have no prescription medicine or any other type of medicine in my home, except for a small bottle of aspirin. Which mainly I keep there for family and friends when they visit and may get a headache. Especially when watching TV, the Eagles are making stupid mistakes and losing. LOL
Do I miss consuming like a tasty pizza with the toppings. Sure I do. But my mind frame now is thinking the situation thru to the inevitable conclusion. Yes, I’d thoroughly enjoy that pizza for five or ten minutes on my taste buds. However then I’d have to suffer thru a day or two of headache, indigestion, constipation and other aggravating problems. Not including the long term affects of consuming food such as that which in fact can result in heart problems, cancer, etc.
Besides, eating healthy doesn’t have to mean boring. For example there are various ways to consume say an organic chicken, simply baking it and include healthy organic herbs and spices, and it’s delicious. And no mentioned side effects to worry about. 😊

Yep, also known as the medical industrial complex. The industry makes big money prescribing drugs and other unnecessary costly treatments. They don't make money telling patients that arthritis can often be cured simply thru better diet.
I stated facts. It's your prerogative to do whatever you wish.
Well, this will be my final post in this thread, as there's been too many threads closed recently. But considering the discussed problems that Simone has had in her life, i thought it was important to recommend some good, common sense solutions.

I dove, same thing, if I knew I had an issue I knew I was going to hit the water wrong. Taking yourself out is not quitting when you know you will fail. I never didn't dive, but water and a 1" mat on concrete are 2 different animals on the body when you're landing from 10 feet up.
"Biles returned days later to win bronze on balance beam while doing a slightly altered routine that removed any twisting elements. It was her seventh Olympic medal, and she called the triumph sweet while also admitting the twisties hadn't really disappeared. "
Do you people read anything that would dare change your mind, ever? How do you exist in life without an ounce of intellectual curiosity?
I do not have time for ignorant trolls.

I just want to say congrats Simone for winning the overall gold today. What an accomplishment. Go team USA!
Also congrats to Simone Biles!
The USA is proud of you except for Craig so that’s still a great percentage of people. 🇺🇸🏆🍺
I changed my mind about Dan Marino after his wretched career rushing record was posted.
Still have him as #3 all time though, but now with an asterisk.
I suggest we just see who can eat the most hard-boiled eggs in an hour.
I just asked my Girlfriend if she was surprised that Simone won the gold and she just laughed lol
Congrats to the GOAT Gymnast
GO USA 🥇🇺🇲
Let's talk about Freddie Freeman quitting on the Dodgers. He's not even hurt. His kid is having health issues, not Freddie. Freddie can still hit a baseball. Why isn't Freddie playing. He isn't a doctor. What is he doing at home? His teammates must be disappointed in him. The Dodgers are 1-4 in the 5 games he's been sitting on his butt at home. Freddie has hundreds of millions of dollars and several books out. A couple of mansions. Get out there and play, Freddie!
See how ridiculous that you all sound?
Biles could complete more innings than Skenes.

Every parent’s nightmare no doubt. I appreciate the dripping sarcasm but I bet not everyone knows what you’re saying.
The last estimate I saw had about 60 million Americans living with stupidity. IQ less than 85.
I think that any comments regarding Biles pulling out of the team competition in Tokyo are quite selfish in nature. I’m happy for her.
My girlfriends daughters step mother was killed in a horrific accident and suffered a delayed meltdown that spiraled out if control to the point where she was put in a locked hospital for 3 days for making suicidal. statements.
This girl was a gymnast, in upper tier shape gorgeous, academically brilliant, got All American in cheerleading and had everything going for her until the wheels fell off.
It was an ordeal that is almost impossible to write down how tough it was
I used to be an Old School. "Toughen up' type of guy but after witnessing this phenomenon I have all the sympathy's for anyone dealing with this as well as their loved ones.
And thank God my girlfriends Daughter is recovered, she works 2 jobs now and is going off to College this month.
Thank You @stevek
Lifetime of training for that event is brutal. Trad off really of a decent life for maybe a medal. Way easier to shoot hoops or bobsled down a mountain.
Points about nutrition are valid, but a million other things are probably going on. Failure is not an option is potent. You can end up with a Tiger Woods, which is a good thing, but he really has some screws loose.
I remember when Troy Aiken quit at halftime in the Super Bowl because of his mental health. He was so brave.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
This tread just wouldn’t have been complete without stevek MD making an appearance. 🙄
Jeez, now we have to wait until he analyzes Simone’s diet to get to the root cause of her problem.
If only this discussion was simply about Sports, it would actually fit the Category of Sports Talk.
