Does anyone else have no interest in the Olympics?

I have tried to take an interest in the Olympics over the years. Both summer and winter and just cannot get excited about them. I know I am in the minority, but I just dont care about any of it. I have also tried to take an interest in ice hockey, soccer, car and horse racing. I just cant get interested in those either.

I have thought about it, and perhaps it is the style of coverage? there are lots of human interest type stories surrounding the athletes and I dont really care for that.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

My girlfriend loves Gymnastics, I caught a little of that from time to time but only because she had it on.

I really have no interest in any of it, the social justice nonsense they push with it is irrelevant because you can just FF through that crap but overall I just never took an interest to it

I remember all the hype about Dan vs. Dave back in 1992. that ended up being a complete bust. That and the Dream team are the last times I had any level of interest at all.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Not much interest. Will listen to results during the news, but do not go out of my way to check the results. Far as the men's basketball goes, I just hope the US does not suffer any injuries. Would not want them to affect their NBA careers.

Between horse dancing and table tennis it’s really tough to pick a favorite. But.

Naw. I look forward to the summer Olympics because I get to see some weird sports I’ve perhaps never heard of outside of the Olympics. Just wait until they bring tug-o-war back. You’ll have to peel me off the screen.

Winter Olympics are even better. I got out of a high school detention once because I said I had curling practice and I’ve been a fan of the sport ever since. Luge, Bobsled? Stop it. This is like boys with toys inventing sports. You’re going to get in this metal shell and we’re going to fire you down this slick ice tube… ok?

You’ll never find me at the Olympics ringing a cowbell and wearing a USA romper but it’s still fun to watch. For me.

  • bgrbgr Posts: 1,618 ✭✭✭✭✭

On second thought. A romper is both functional and comfortable.

Cadence of the Olympics is lost with the weak coverage.

Cosell were their, I would watch cricket racing.

With the coverage being offered by the networks, you'd think that the only competitors are from the United States, although anytime the basketball team plays, there must be another country involved somehow, I guess.

I have watched Olympic TV coverage sporadically, as there are many other things that fill up my day. Last night I watched about 10 minutes of women's gymnastics and one men's swimming event. My interest in the Olympics has decreased over the decades.

In 1984 I lived and worked in So. Cal. and was able to attend multiple Olympic events that year, including a Men's basketball game. That was a treat.

My favorite Olympic athletes (for two different reasons) are:

    1. Weight Lifter Gerd Bonk (from East Germany who competed in the 1972 and 1976 Olympics). His name is a classic; and

    2. Diver Daphne Jongejans (from the Netherlands who competed in the 1984 Olymoics). She was one of the most, if not the most, attractive woman I have ever seen.

Especially in todays world. Every country hates and despises the USA The events are so boring that it is not even interesting.

Track & field has always been my favorite Olympic events. I've always enjoyed a race whether it be humans, horses, etc.

My favorite of the track & field is the 1,500 meters.

But I'm not going to bother watching it live. Watching it later on a Youtube replay is good enough for me.

It is sad that the Olympics, which used to be an event all Americans could get behind, has become yet another event for the radical, extremist right to prove they are not patriotic at all, no matter how much they claim to the contrary.

I like World Cup soccer but just cant get into Olympic soccer. Theres some weird rule that has to do with age I think where the WC and Olympic rosters vary a lot. Beach volleyball can be pleasing to the eye lol, and I do like watching when baseball and softball are included. Track and field stuff just doesnt really interest me much. Its like watching someone work out and the USA just dominates it anyways.

Between the two I like the winter ones better on the years that baseball and softball arent included. Its more interesting and more competitive. Ice Hockey is good, curling is really funny to me how a bunch of dads that get together on weekends can win a gold medal, the skeleton and ski jump people are just insane

I know baseball and softball are coming back for 2028 but someone needs to explain to me how break dancing, trampoline, flag football, 3 on 3 basketball, and a lot of X games BMX stuff is in the Olympics but baseball and softball were removed for a time

  • MistlinMistlin Posts: 323 ✭✭✭

Some sports' inclusions are determined by the host country. Baseball was removed from 2024 because it doesn't have a presence in France means they do not have the facilities necessary to host, but 2028 (being in Los Angeles) the states obviously does.

France has a professional baseball league

Upgrade the facilities like they do for everything else or dont be a host country

Add the golden calf and the pale horseman they showed....like you I will not watch a single minute. They offended billions of people. Christians, Muslims (they also love Jesus believe it or not) and Hindus do not seem very happy either so what is that about 6 billion people total out of what 8 billion humans (China having the highest rate of atheist with a population of 1.5 billion people). This will cost them lots and lost of money and people will never forget this. The 33rd Olympics hmmm 33 sounds the highest rank of some group....will not name them here. This group LOVES their symbology they mock us all the time right in our faces....very happy people are waking up to their madness.

Many atheist found it DISGUSTING as well just read comments on the internet.

They can say whatever they want the intent was bad Last Supper or not. One guys balls hanging out with a young underage girl beside him I mean WTH!!! A 3some ''live'' on air while kids are watching. Some of the cast actually wrote on their Facebook account it was the Last Supper so go figure.

I have seen this nonsense repeated ad nauseum, and it's hilarious every. single. time.

It wasn't even a depiction of the last supper. Not that I would expect any "christian" to have a knowledge of the world outside their book of fairy tales.

Ironic those who invented the derisive term 'snowflake' are the most sensitive people on the planet.

You can easily locate the image with that dudes ball sack hanging out. With very young girls on the same scene....DISGUSTING behaviour!!!!

Nah have to be smarter than that. We will make a financial impact on those who promoted this that will be the pay back. Just like what happened to Budweiser a while back but this time I have a feeling it will a lot more intense and will last much longer. This will be worldwide they pissed off way to many people this time around. Last time was a few million people pissed off this time it will be in the billions. People are passing the message along all over the internet it will spread and is spreading.

I've often professed to others among my inner circle that the Olympics should go back to its most primitive roots and feature competitions involving only virtually naked Greek men lifting or tossing heavy objects or trying to outrun each other to become the most impressive athletic dude in the region, then getting to chill out with Zeus.

As long as it’s not anything I need or want I’m on board with boycotting each and every company responsible. Let’s get em!

But with Budweiser I think it’s time for a redoubling of efforts because their stock is right around where it was when the he budcotts occurred. Maybe even a little up and definitely outperforming the wider industry which has been slammed. What’s Kid Rock doing? Maybe we need to blow up some beer.

First, an on topic comment about the Olympics: for a sports junkie like me they are irresistible, both summer and winter. They are sort of like going to a buffet or being in a restaraunt that has a great salad bar. You can pick and choose what you like and just ignore the rest. What I like about the Olympics is that as I watch what I like I also get to see some stuff I might not otherwise have seen that is quite good. Overall, these are hands down the best athletes in the World at their particular discipline and it is nice to watch.

As to the opening ceremony, I did a little searching and it was just misinterpreted, so many people are pissed off about the wrong thing. Another thing that makes me smile is the "Last Supper" picture that we all know. I have searched on that, too, and from what I found there's really no description of things happening the way Leonardo depicted them. That famous picture is akin to an "artist's conception" of what took place, literary license if you will. But people get stuck on what they believe and resist knowledge and change.

Have a nice day and enjoy breaking, surfing and skate boarding..........................because this isn't your Fathers Olympics!! >:)

It's "funny" with DD. I think the thread that got him started on his tirade was the Kentucky Derby thread, when he went on an extended rant about the poor horses getting whipped a few times in the stretch during a race.

Yet his favorite sport is boxing. Whereby two human beings punch the living chit out of each other, attempting to knock the opponent unconscious. Resulting in most if not almost all boxers developing at least some form of CTE and other maladies later in their lives. Some boxers have died in the ring.

Evidently all that about boxing didn't bother him, but a few taps on a horse's rear end did?

I have no plans of watching any of it live. But I will watch some of it on Youtube.

The women's 100 meter relay, won by the US, is already posted on Youtube. Credit where credit is due, the race call was one of the best track & field calls I've ever heard. Kudos to whoever it was doing that call.
