Yup, I'm aware of the platinum sold on tv sets of the state quarters...
I thought it was a silver when I opened the roll.
Plenty of luster on both sides.
Not noticing any obvious evidence of it having been plated before.
Always willing to put myself out there...because the explanation is just not obvious to me...

Sorry, just another plated statehood quarter.
Have you weighed it?
Wasn’t there a whole silver/gold/platinum plated mega-set being sold back in the day?
Agree with OP, does not have the appearance of having been plated.

Definitely plated.
They are not uncommon to find in circulation, here's 11 I have found.
Plating wouldn't add any significant weight since it's so thin.

Multiple sets by multiple retailers.
I think he's making the opposite point. If it is a different composition, as opposed to plated, it would have a different weight.
That would be the definitive test. Although there should have been no silver blanks in Philly, clad is 5.67g and silver is 6.3g.
99.94% sure it's plated. Perhaps a slight better than average plating job.

I will weigh it...I've been relocating and my scale is in storage but I can grab it this weekend.
I agree, I've found a handful of them too, and remember the sets when they were being sold.
But other than the edge, nothing about this one looks like it's been plated before.
@FredWeinberg even encouraged me to take an exacto knife to the edge of one a few years ago to reveal the copper layer (for the benefit of the group) when I posted it in another forum regarding another one I found, so I did But that one was clearly entirely plated...

A few of mine have a look of being plated others are the perfect color & texture.
A few of them look perfectly normal and you would not be able to tell they are plated without looking at the edge.
I think it may depend on the plating process used and the metal it was plated with.
I have an electronic coin comparitor to double check them.
When we bought those sets in at the coin shop we paid face value and threw the coins into the cash register. They are out there.
