Alexander von Humboldt medallion 1847 kosmos

Hello,

I've found this medal in bronze and porcelain, but no auctions for it in silver, could I get some help with a possible value on it?

It looks like four in silver have sold over the past 15 years in European auctions, with hammer prices (less buyer's fee) ranging from €650-€1,700. Assuming that there aren't any major issues with this one, such as extensive hairlining/cleaning and rim nicks/bruises, it would probably be in the $1,250-1,750 range and up, though those prices may require the right placement and audience given how esoteric things like this can be.

  • Thanks for your reply. Which tools did you use to find this information? I am not a coin collector myself, but rather inherited this collection, and I am now trying to get some estimate of the value for insurance purposes.

Coinarchives or AC search will be where you can find information on more the obscure stuff, like this medal

  • Thanks for the links, ac search could show the existence, even though no values, if you don't pay for it.

Your grandfather's collection seems to contain many very interesting pieces. It is great to see a collection like this still intact after 25 years. Take good care of it.
