Collecting the 1964 Canadian Charlottetown Dollar
The Canadian silver dollars struck from 1935 through 1967 are easily among the most popular coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. These large, 80% silver coins feature the reigning British monarch at the time of the coin’s issue on the obverse. The reverse, during most years, generally depicts a Canadian voyageur and indigenous man in a canoe under the Northern Lights. However, several dates were struck with special commemorative reverses, including the 1964 Canada Dollar which features a design by Dinko Vodanovic and Thomas Shingles with four emblems reflecting the English (rose), French (fleur-di-lis), Irish (shamrock), and Scottish (thistle) influences of Canadian culture.
