Vault nightmare turned lucky

Like many of you I hated the idea of sending cards to a vault and not having them in hand but I took the plunge 2-3 years ago to avoid sales tax. I learned that you could retrieve them fairly quickly so I went along with 4-5 bigger items I had won in major auction houses. So all was good UNTIL I won a 39 Ted Williams SGC 4 in A Heritage auction in June. They shipped the card to the Goldin Vault address that I had always used but unbeknownst to me they changed the address. So heritage says that if I investigate and file a police report they will refund me. So I find the nearest address I can find of the old vault address and get very lucky in that next door is apparently an art vault type of business. The man that answered the phone was a super nice guy that told me this has been happening for several months now and he would look for my package. He found my package that had been there for roughly a month. Very relieved! I was so fortunate to say the least! I sent him a UPS label and he shipped it to me and I got it yesterday. So the moral of the story is to double check those shipping addresses or just don’t use a vault at all.

I'd say don't use the vault at all and as a collector I don't understand those who do as I want to hold my cards or go and touch them when I want to. Thats JMHO.

@VintagemanEd great to hear about the happy resolution.

@grote15 I do agree. If you are going to sell as a business then you have a resale certificate. I have less than zero sympathy for vault issue or losses for any seller/flipper/speculator/etc whose goal is to skirt around sales tax!

The advice seems to be. Make sure you have your shipping address correct when you pay your Heritage invoices!

    ...

    and something about vaults!
