I suspect that cartridge case is Swedish military. If you measured the overall length and the inside diameter of the case mouth, that would be a big help in identifying it.
@Bayard1908 thanks for responding. The length is approx. 55 mm and the inside diameter of the mouth is approx. 6.42 mm
That's what I expected, Swedish 6.5 x 55mm. That cartridge was rare in the United States until a few decades ago, when a large quantity of Model 1896 Mauser rifles were sold as surplus in this country.
@Bayard1908 thanks for all of your help. Everyone at our hunt thought it was Canadian but we couldn’t confirm. I’m glad to have an answer because we have a meeting tonight at our local American legion. We get about 50 people out of the 100 or so members at each meeting so I will let everyone know that the mystery is solved.
nice
@johnny9434 that hunt was on a Nunnery that consisted of 90 acres. Said to have never been hunted. It was a fun day to say the least.
Omg, I'm sure of it and indeed fun. Happy hunting 👍
This is probably my most astonishing MD find ever. I have found several empty cartridges like the one above, but this blew me away. It is a 9mm Luger pistol round, still perfectly able to be used.
Making this story even more crazy is the fact that I found this under a children’s jungle jim at a public park! I thought that it would be a cent that some kid had dropped, and it was only like an inch deep in the mulch!
