Gift that will hurt my old eyes

jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 10,004 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just received from my son's mother-in-law a box of 70 odd rolls of lincoln cents, that she has collected for 50 years. Her grandson rolled them for her. Also, a 14# cannister of the same. Joey, want to come visit me in WV? lol

I think having to insert each coin would be somewhat time consuming. With the handheld, I can lay out 20 coins in a few rows and go over all them quite quickly. I do remember those from the 80's, at least that's when I remember them.

I love to look through old Lincolns. If you were my neighbor, I'd look through them all for free. I find it very relaxing and I have a pair of +3.5 Walmart glasses since my cataracts removed so I can work on fine details close up with a nice bright LED daylight bulb nearby, otherwise +2 works fine.

    Hi Jim!
    :D
    70 rolls?
    To me, that's nothing!
    :D
    Good Luck
    ;)

Well, it looks like she meant closer to $70 as the box had 128 rolls in it. Lordy me. I'll start someday soon I hope. lol

That would hurt my eyes, maybe permanently. Good luck my old friend🤪

Sounds like a fun project! I had a friend that gave me a sack of wheaties for face value but I had to search through them to fill holes in my album. Overly strong reading glasses help with good lighting.

One of the BIGGEST RIPOFFS in numismatics. Couldn't put but a few coins into
the chute. Forget trying a roll. Wouldn't always flip the coin to see the other side.
Half the the time the coins got lost in the "machine".

    How did this device work?

    @Conshyboy
As you look at the picture, on the far right there is a slide tray with an opening with the words
" SCAN O MATIC". Slide it to the far right, Into the black opening you place a group
of stacked coins. Let one of the coins drop onto the opening on the slide tray.
Once the coin is in the opening, push it further to the left to be viewed under the
magnifier viewer. Pull it back slightly to turn the coin over to see the other side.
Once you finished viewing said coin, you moved the slide tray back to the right,
the coin would drop out and you move the tray a little bit more and next coin
would fall into the opening. This is the best explanation I can give.
