There have been a number of threads on this frustrating subject.
It's happened to me multiple times and as mentioned above, the comments never appear.
It seems more likely to occur when edits are being made and/or comments from other posters are being quoted.
You might get better feedback by editing your title to something a lot more specific like:
Posting issue - "Your comment will appear after it is approved"

I have seen this very annoying message before, and it seems to come and go. However, when it attacks your post, it just won't let you go for a few minutes. It is irritating, but when it stops it kinda moves on to a different member. I will try and keep it captive for 3 - 4 minutes next time it attacks. Hope you all appreciate this act of kindness.

Yeah, this happened a bunch of times for me until I sort of figured it out. It was typically when I drank too much coffee or energy drink and I would type a long post with lots of typos and try to edit them to fix the typos. If I try to edit a post more than about once every couple of minutes it would trigger that. When I am all caffeinated up, I type way too fast, so that’s how I figured that out. So now, I tend to do the preview thing instead of posting, and if I type a long post with a bunch of pictures in it too then I “select all” and hit “copy” just in case. I don’t trigger the glitch if I do it that way

this is a reason the experienced save their posts to a document app before they hit post comment

It's a common glitch.
Try clicking the "Preview" button before you hit post.
It has always worked for me YMMV.
