Found a Silver Dime in Change! (There's still hope out there!!)

Was going through a bunch of change and I saw a very old silvery looking dime in it. I looked at the edges and yes, it was silver. Amazing how they are still going around in circulation. What stood out about the dime was the bright white metal. It was brighter than others, so if you have a quick eye, you go for the brightness of the coin, not shine, but brightness and it should be what you guess it to be! Same thing with the star notes, I find those all the time, these are things being a numismatist, I have trained my eye to look out for. Keep an eye out in your change!

What?! How did it make it so far through circulation?

I found one in a roll from the bank a week or so also. This one was a 1940 something "Mercury" looks nice too! I have it displayed on the cash register at my store just as a conversation piece.

These finds still happen very occasionally, but they still amaze me. I recently found a 25C (1962). I had fun showing a compare of a silver quarter to a clad to my grandkids. Not only the edge, but the ringing sound when the silver 25C was dropped on a table compared to the clunk of the clad one.

    I hope it's at least a 1942/41 liberty dime

It's not unheard of to find a silver dime in circulation. I have found two at different times last couple of years in the Coinstar at the Walmart. One was a Mercury and the other a Roosevelt.

I have found a total of one silver Washington (1964-D), two rosies (1962-D & 1964-D), and one war nickel (1943-P) in my relatives accumulated coins.

I received a silver dime in change last week. I was about to bank it and notice the edge was silver and not copper. It turned out to be a 1946 AU dime better than the one I save in the mid sixties.
