How I Stopped Going To Starbucks And Almost Completed A Set Of Mercury Dimes.

A few years ago I used to drink Starbucks at least once or twice a day. I calculated the cost and I was spending $2000-$3000 on coffee, which was crazy. So I ended up buying a commercial espresso maker. And started making my own espresso drinks.

I took bucks I was paying for starbucks and started buying Mercury dimes. Over time I had enough to put an album together and while a few cost more than $10, the vast majority were under $10.
And for a while I left the set alone as done, but recently my coin dealer called me to tell me he had a large "junk silver" purchase and it included a lot of Mercury dimes with a few nicer than average but not nice enough to put in flips, if I wanted to look through them I had first crack. So I did and picked up a few nicer ones which caused a revisit of my set of Mercury dimes.
Since I still don't go to Starbucks the money I am not spending I usually allocate to coins or bullion. So again, I was able to update a set I started because I stopped drinking Starbucks.

Originally, there were no coins in the post so it just seemed like financial advice.
@jmlanzaf i was still posting. I was trying to tell a story. Your comment was a little too fast. Please delete it as it’s breaking my story flow.

It's probably good financial advise no matter what. Unless you're independently wealthy, one less Starbucks a week would add up to be real money. In a perfect world: Debt free first, expensive hobbies last.

There's a lot of good advice that doesnt belong in a coin forum... like don't buy coins, invest in mutual funds. Or, to your point, pay down your mortgage, don't buy coins.
It's about money, coins are money, it belongs here. Unless of course you report me to the MODS and have it removed! 🤣 😂

Nice Mercury dime collection. My folder is missing a few, most notably the 16D. I have a difficult time buying a raw one and filling the hole. I suppose I could do a crack out and plug the hole, but I find that not very practical for the money spent.
As far as Starbucks goes, I quit going there as well. My wife and family gifted me an espresso machine, which makes the best espresso. I'm also making my wife's cold brews with it as well. We are saving about $10-15 a day.....it's a win win!
Perhaps the end game of goals is to not have to eliminate one luxury to support another.
Sipping on your Starbucks while viewing your Mercury dime collection, so to speak.

I still do that, but now it’s usually with a cocktail.
