Mystery Solved and What a Surprise

I periodically had searched for information about this sweet medal, but could find nothing until yesterday, Finally got a hit on the name. A specimen was listed in the 1914 inventory from the Kunsthalle zu Hamburg. And the medallist; Benno Elkan. This prominent sculptor may best be known for the menorah sitting in front of the Israeli Knesset, in Jerusalem. I am thinking that this medal was a private commission.

Probably commissioned for the child's third birthday in 1911. A small number were probably made for distribution to close family members.

I'm guessing the family that commissioned it was from Switzerland. Do you know anything about Friedrich Bernhard?

    All glory is fleeting.

Couldn't find out anything about the child. I think you are correct about the Swiss nationality. The vendor that sold the medal to me identified the medal as being of Swedish origin, but if that is a nation's flag, it clearly is Swiss.
