Denver Mint Proof Coins??

mrcommemmrcommem Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was looking at the 1984 $10 Olympic Eagle coins and noticed that they were made at 4 different mints, West Point, San Francisco, Philadelphia and most unusual Denver. Are there any other Denver Mint proof coins besides the $10 Olympic Eagle?

They made gold branch mint proofs, 1906-D and 1907-D $20, and 1907-D $10. I believe PCGS recognizes them as Specimen/Special Strike, but they were recognized by NGC as proofs for a while.

This is my favorite piece of numismatic trivia. Even seasoned dealers get stumped by this one!

I could make a case for this one.

Where is this documented……I just looked through the 2023 Red Book and see only 1984W $10 proof.

I have owned the coin for over 40 years. I suggest you look again at your Redbook. It should be listed with the 1984 Olympic Coins. There are 4 proofs, one from each mint, and one MS, made at West Point. Mintage of the Denver proof was 34533.

The red book is slightly messed up here. It says unc. where it should say proof. Go by the mintages that are in parenthesis.

    Might be a copyright error.

Probably. There are multiple error that I have found over reading the red book, but this one stood out to me.

I realize that my graphic here is rather poor as I simply marked on your picture, but hopefully it helps.

I'm curious to know why the Denver Mint hasn't made any proofs since.
