As part of the ongoing grading series, we stop at Mexico

1817 8 R Mo JJ

PCGS Grade: AU50 My Grade: I had the most probable outcome at EF45

I submitted all three coins to establish a better point of reference not just for grading, but looking at the surviving population and quality issues. My probable outcome was likely influenced by production issues and the overall look of the planchet

1806 8R

PCGS Grade: AU53 My grade: I had the most probable outcome grade at AU50

I liked the surfaces and overall look - I saw the coin as submission worthy

The thread will be updated once the War of Independence 1818 Zs 8 R image is available

Nice honest 8R's. As i've mentioned before, the difference between AU grades at PCGS is largely influenced by how much luster remains. It's hard to get a good sense of luster from images (especially these images), but being within a grade does show that you're looking at the right things when grading this series. Well done!
