If PSA has no Oversized special next month, I'm going to try Beckett for the first time.
I'm hearing they take as long as PSA.

Yeah. I like Beckett and they grade pretty darn fair, but it takes forever. I was debating on CGC. they have a $9.80 special for 25 cards or more. Sounded decent and they grade a ton of cards, but mainly Pokemon and magic, etc.

CGC has a flat $9 special, partnerning with PWCC.
Any year. No minimum. Any value. No upcharges.
The cards are sent to PWCC vault after grading.
I think the catch is, there are fees involved with vaulting, and I'm not sure if you send the raw cards to PWCC first, or to CGC directly. I would be concerned with the ol' switch-a-roo when sending to a middleman, if that is the case, unless it's a modern serial numbered card.
    I don't know their timelines.

what i saw was $11 bulk for 25 or more and if you join for $25, the price is cut to 9.80.

I talked to a beckett rep at the chantilly show,he said it's at least 45 business day waits. CGC posts their approximate times. Looks like 3 business weeks for $11 each. If you join for $25, it's 9.90 apiece, minimum 25. I think I am going to give them a try for the ones that I didn't like from SGC and/or PSA. Just to get a feel of how they grade.

I look at it like this. If PSA give me a 5, and I think the card looks like a 7, I would rather have the card in holder that says 7, if possible. I know there are price differences. But oh well.

I submitted to beckett for the first time.
The website does say 45+ business days for base. I don't know when the clock starts, though.
It took a week to get an invoice ID after the package was labeled delivered.
I'm still waiting for a Job ID, and it's been 10 business days so far.
It's a good couple months out at least, I'm sure.

CGC has a deal with Omega to grade 750000 junk cards, as well as mention a vending machine deal that gets little or no press - no kidding. As result their true TATS are now just as long, sometimes longer than PSA.

CGC went for a short-term deals that has forever cemented their reputation as a garbage slabber. Not Smart IMHO

might not be. but i have nothing to lose but money, lol!! the cards i will sending look mucjh better than the grades they received. i.e. 1975 brett got a 4, but visually looks like a 7. if, for example, the brett does get a 7, i think it would sell for than a sgc 4. even a 6 would be better. just trying to maximize the inventory.

if it doesn't work out, at least i will know. i would send a bunch to bccg, but apparently they don't holder them like they used to.

I also saw them in Chantilly and dropped some stuff off. Agree that it takes a while to log an order. And was just feeling like telling them that, hey I paid for the 20-25 day service realizing they may hurry it up and give me bad grades. They told me hey we cant start the clock until its delivered back to us and was going to leave it at that but was surprised how soon after that I saw results. Dont think me speaking up impacted the quickness.

What I found interesting is they seem to grade quick let you know the grades and then it takes more time to do all the slabbing shipping etc. Cause the hard part of waiting for me is knowing the grade. Let me know and then you can take your time. It had been about 4 years since I did business but think I will do a specific type of business with them. Modern autos of cards like Prizm Bowman Chrome etc. Feels like a nice fit and maybe their type of business.

Over the years of working with Beckett I will say their opinion of the grade and mine are more aligned than any of the other companies. I got a 9 back from SGC and felt that looks like Gem Mint to me. Gave it to Beckett and they agreed. I am less surprised with the results from Beckett. Also on more modern stuff I like the idea of the subs. That a card can have 9 centering but gem mint corners edges and surface can pull it up and make up for it. With other companies seems like centering can just be a deal killer. BTW, with 1980 and older you just get the single grade.

I'm at a place where I like the idea of seeing a card and saying this is the best fit for ________ . Can appreciate PSA Beckett and SGC depending on the situation.

Update on my first ever Beckett sub.
    Received Date: 07/07/2024
    Invoice ID: 07/14/2024
    Job ID: 08/01/2024

I subbed 7 oversized cards and the Job ID said "No. of Cards Received: 4"
I gave it some time figuring they may still be researching the cards, but it was a little scary seeing 4, not 7.
I contacted them a few days later and got no response.
I tried contacting them again today through the website and got a response within the hour.
They reassured me everything is on track and they are indeed still researching and manually logging them in.
Strange to break it up like that, and disconcerting. I will be relieved when it says Cards Received: 7
Still don't know when the clock starts, but if it's the Invoice ID, I'm looking at Sept 13th POP at the earliest.

THANKS FOR THE UPDATE. at chantilly the beckett rep said it would be every bit the 45 business days.

I have a 7-card order as well, turned it in at The National. But it does not say the # of items from the view I see. I wouldn't sweat it. There has never been any issues with them being confused, losing or misplacing cards etc. with my stuff.

I think your clock starts with what they show as Date Received. I have a 7/29 with a 20-25 day service. Last time it popped surprisingly early based on that. Certainly hoping for that again and checking here and there.

Hopefully The National business does not cause delays. That crowd was ridiculous. But they entered it as received reasonably quickly.

    Best of luck.

Beckett grades so few cards these days the turnaround times should be quick

If they reduced their staff due to less submissions possibly be same wait times. More cards, more staff. Both situations would be a wash.

Sounds like they want to keep it small. Expanding is good but causes other issues. You definitely have to depend on more people, which sometimes is not a good thing given the employment issues most people are having.

  • Hard to say how busy they are or how many cards they get but there was definitely no lack of demand in Cleveland. It was recommended you set an appt. which was a different line and then the regular line was pretty substantial.

I was thinking Beckett is probably different in the sense of how many cards are in each order. As discussed in this thread two of us with 7 card orders. I talked to a guy in line who had one card. My friend I was in line with had about 9.

I've submitted to PSA with 120 cards and 50 to 75 feels normal. I feel like PSA is a company where you bust some boxes or a case and have stacks of cards that go to them. Set registry. A stack of cards from a certain year. You build up and assemble for a large submission. Beckett seems more like that company where you have a few special cards that you submit to them. Your #ed to 499 or 250 auto Bowman Chrome. Beckett feels like less of a place you go with a stack of cards.

In comparison to PSA, yes, a ton less cards. But they looked extremely busy in Cleveland.

  • BTW, mine that I submitted at the National for 20-25 day service had the grades pop yesterday. Pleased with the results. Can share pics when I have them in hand.

Wow, that was fast. And Beckett has been busy with other shows since the National.
My sub still says 4 cards, not 7. They said don't worry, but I'm worried.
Beckett's staff must be pretty small. It's not like they grade a lot compared to the others.

  • Here are the best of mine. FedEx arrived today and very pleased with the way they look.

Thanks for that info Ron. Its very interesting. CGC that high surprises me. Have not used them for cards yet. Would have expected them to be 4th. But maybe with the comic connection they are getting stacks of TCG cards. Which maybe fits with my idea that someone sends 50 to 100 TCGs to PSA and possibly CGC and Beckett is getting orders of 3 with /150 /299 /499 autos. But I am just guessing.

For me, PSA, SGC and BGS all have their place. These days I can look at a card and feel it fits best with one of the three based on my interests. Which aren't purely financial. For the PC stuff, it can just be how I want to look at it.

Number of cards finally correctly says 7!
    Whew! What a relief!
Except for this hiccup, Beckett is a lot better at keeping the customer informed of each stage the cards are in.
It shouldn't be long now. Let's see if Beckett gives a swift kick in the b@ll5 PSA style. :naughty:
