Happy Father's Day + Jim Bunning

Happy Father's day to all the dads among us.
Every Father's Day, I'm reminded that Jim Bunning threw a perfect game on Father's Day in 1964 (now 60 years ago!). Jim needed 90 pitches and stuck out 10 Mets on that day.

Still remember that game myself. I was 8 years old and and had just started Little League the year before. It was a great season, until that 10 game losing streak. My heart didn't mend until 16 years later.

And that same year, Johnny Callison hit a walk off HR to win the All-Star game for the NL

Doubleheaders, a thing of the past that current baseball junkies will never experience. I remember Friday twi-nighters at Connie Mack Stadium starting at 5:30, and often ending after 11. And the best part was that only one ticket was needed. There was no clearing of the stadium between games.
