Finally, some good news about PCGS' imaging department
This 1914 MPL from Andy Skrabalak that I've owned before had been regraded a couple of times and along the way lost it's original "Phil" True-View. The original cert number was 16366611. Here is the coin:
After it was regraded and I purchased it, the cert number changed to 49773004. When I looked up the cert, this was the photo I saw:
Now, my original thought was of course, how on earth could they so completely screw up the imaging of this coin. I mean, It didn't even look like the same coin at all. And then I looked closely. It wasn't.
So I gave PCGS a call today and talked to their CS agent who took all my information and passed it along to the imaging department. We looked up the cert numbers (the old and the new) and I was saddened to hear her tell me that the old images were likely lost forever. I told her that I wanted the images, at the very least, deleted. Anyways, I hope you can forgive me for feeling like I was getting blown off, because within a couple of hours I looked up the cert number again and was treated to this:
Thanks, PCGS!
Now please, please sink some money into your imaging department. I am especially not impressed with the last several coins that I have had imaged, and certainly won't waste a single dime checking that checkbox on my submission form until the quality returns to what I consider beyond amateur.

I guess I am missing the part of your thread about good news regarding the imaging department. It appears that CS found the old images, which I am very glad to see, but that only goes so far.

I think they replaced the new photo that wasn't up to par with the old photo (from an old cert number) that the OP liked. It does not make up for the current situation but at least his coin isn't stuck with a subpar photo.
This may be a reason I have not submitted lately, lack of Phil behind the lens. Hopefully they do put some money into their imaging.

If PCGS wants to turn things around - they need to pay wayyyyy up for a good photographer. Double the going rate. If you want someone really good, triple it. Offer a housing stipend.
Unfortunately, I just don't think the higher ups care.

When PCGS is ready to double to triple the current going rate - just pick up the phone and call my son Justin (owner of Monstercoinmart) and tell him to be there the next day at 9:00 a.m. sharp. He was well trained about 8-10 years ago by the very best at Stacks (thank you again BK for that special favor). Problem solved! 😉

They had the wrong coin in the trueview and replaced it with the right one.

How did the wrong one get there in the first place? Very odd.
it doesn't happen often -- rarely even, but this is far from the first time
