1920-D Buffalo Nickel - Sintered Planchet / Improperly Annealed?

From my childhood Buffalo Nickel collection, I had this black 1920-D Buffalo Nickel. I always thought it was painted or something but I never knew what was wrong with it. But then I saw a video about Improperly Annealed or Sintered Planchets and I was wondering if that's what this is. Is anyone able to tell from these photos? Or maybe this one was just in a fire? I'm guessing it's just damaged but thought I would check.

How about you give it a shot yourself? List three things about the coin that demonstrate that it's an error that left the mint looking like this. Then list three things that say that it has been damaged and couldn't poss have left the mint looking like this.
Your guess is right, looks like damage to me.
Don’t see anything that could occur when the coin was struck.
You are correct that it looks like it has been subjected to some heat source sometime during it lifetime.

Looks like heat or fire damage to me.

Damage of some sort. Not an error.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.
Too bad the coin was damaged, as I think it would have garnered a VF grade.
