Kind of a doozy this time too!

As long as they've been around. You have to pay regardless of sticker status currently, for what it's worth. My success rate is VERY low too, about 1/10 works and I'm super selective about what I send.

So how did you do it? Just a normal sticker sub or did you do a write up and beg? Bribe?

    Just a normal sub and put "Please reconsider for gold CAC" or something. You'll be charged for every coin that has a sticker already and that stickers as well, if it didn't before. I guess you could recon stuff thats failed, but I think I've only done a handful like that, and one passed, IIRC. I think I've gone green to gold 3 times now, on the following;

Oregon Trail Commem in NGC 4.0 Fatty 64
1955 DDO LWC in PCGS Rattler 55.
    And this coin.

I should add that all three of these coins are clearly undergraded and I was a bit disappointed in the initial results. Especially with the 55 DDO since I graded it 61. Literally sent it back with the next sub I did and a note, "What doesn't this have to get a gold CAC?"

Maybe we “all” aren’t, but you and I are two peas in a pod. Big time congrats!

Congrats on the upgrade on a very nice coin and neat holder too! Always thought an upgrade from green to gold was possible but never seen or heard it happen.

    Congrats @DelawareDoons!

I, too, have done this and over the years I made 7 gold CAC’s (all CBH’s) this way. I’ve probably tried it on about 10 coins total. I’m super selective as well in what I submit because as it was said, you pay for it to be looked at as if it’s a regular submission. Definitely not easy!

Any pattern to these upgrades? For example, irregular, mottled toning hiding superb surfaces? I ask because the longer I scrutinized the coin, the grade kept climbing higher in my mind.

I’ve had coins get a sticker on a second submission that didn’t the first time around. Never gotten a gold from a green though. I’ve got a few that are deserving IMO but with the new fees stickering is ex$pen$ive 🤑

I haven’t had any success getting gold on resubmission to CAC. Seems coin needs to be close to 2 grades higher to have a real chance. My coins fell a little short so no gold

No pattern whatsoever…..just coins that are clearly undergraded, and as stated likely by at least 2 grades.

I’ve gotten JA to change the green stickers to gold on both coins in older style holders and those very recently graded as well.

So, what you're saying is, grading is subjective, even at CAC?? :D

no, once you get to gold it's locked in...that is of course until you get the coin to move up a grade and then we repeat the process again.

We don't do that with old holders.

I will send you some lead to turn to gold - what is your turn around time?

Fair enough, the scientific answer is the most plausible.
