Big accomplishment..

it's been 5 years since I updated my 1978 OPC set. It is now officially finalized. It has a rating of 10.066. As far as I could tell it is the oldest highest graded 100% finished OPC set of All-time. It took a long time to finish, but It's completed. i will try to upgrade a few here and there, but it's very difficult to locate ones I don't already have. Just thought I would share.

highlights of the set

both pete rose's psa 10
Card #2 Nolan Ryan /phil niekro PSA 10 pop 2
Jim palmer psa 10
steve carlton psa 10
carlton fisk psa 10

and many good players with 10's.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

well -- I had it completed several years ago but I just never took the time to log them in. The last time I logged one in was in 2019. So I kind of had it done but not officially. So it took about 8 - 9 years.

Congrats! I've always liked the 78's and did the Topps set. When I retired it in 2008 it had 107 PSA 10 cards, 615 PSA 9 cards, and only 4 PSA 8 cards with a GPA of 9.27. I couldn't imagine trying to put together an OPC set in such high grade. The quantity just isn't out there.

What are you going to do with it ? Sell and start a new project? Keep it and start a new project?

Keep it and try to upgrade when I can. i won't spend a lot of time on it. THe geronimo is only a 4, I have a couple other raw ones should be able to boost that. Rice is a 7. So here and there I will look to upgrade.

I have quite a few of the 1979 and 1980 OPC sets already started. I have a few of the 1979 posted in the registry, but not all of the ones I have. SO those 2 are feasible. 1979 is very tough.

I love grading grades so I will continue grading what I have and pick up others. FYI, the OPC cards are not graded the same way they were 8 years ago. It used to be if the cards was centered and the surface wasn't to bad you would get an 8 or 9. But SGC and PSA have tighten it up. Hard to get a 9 from either.
