    It's the only mintmarked Denver nickel.

    That in itself makes it "special".

    It's the 1st mintmarked nickel or the only mintmarked Liberty nickel.

    1912-D was first, the 1912-S coins were all made in the last week of December 1912.

    Doesn't seem to be in hand & have had rather poor pictures of coins on my iPhone 11S. Seems to take good portraits but this is the results I get. You all might remember the 1872 S Liberty Std half and the 1905 O Barber quarter...
    Everybody dogged them, but PCGS graded them MS63 and MS 64 respectively...This was same source.
