"Reholder" is not a word in Scrabble

CoinosaurusCoinosaurus Posts: 9,629 ✭✭✭✭✭

My computer game would not let me play "reholder." I covered two triple-word scores and would have scored 167 points. Stupid computer game.

Every time I want to use the word I have to battle with autocorrect, I feel your pain.

Scrabble can be a devastating game... I remember trying to play "PACTS" a few years ago, got challenged by my dad and brother, and lost because the pluralization of PACT was not in the dictionary on hand.

"Reholder" is a word invented by the TPG companies to try to get you to use their services more often.

In other words, it's marketing jargon, a word which does not exist outside of the rarefied atmosphere of TPGs and their customers.

I just asked Google to "define reholder" and it couldn't; all it did was link me to a bunch of TPG discussion pages (mostly comics and sports cards).

I believe Scrabble rules are "no jargon". For jargon to be included as valid words, it needs to go mainstream, which "reholder" does not (yet) qualify for.

It becomes more obvious when you realize that “holder” is not a valid verb. It is only listed as a noun.

But it will allow CACed and CACable though, right? Right? …😧

    Appears "holdered" isn't recognized either.

    It's simply not a word.

Smart computer game as that is not a word in English or any other language. The only pain is making a thread of it, Next time try asteroids as a word, it works. Decades ago, I drew those letters on the initial draw and won. It has been a very long time since I have played that or any other game.

If people use it and understand its meaning, it is most certainly a word.

What's sad id that "reholder" is not playable in Scrabble or Words With Friends but "supposably" is. The dumbing down of America is in full effect.

Kinda funny considering all the dumb words that are officially acceptable in scrabble...like ''za'' which means pizza.

I tried "trime" today, which also failed. Scrabble is clearly not a coin collector.

Yet these are words recently added to the Webster's Dictionary: BARBIECORE, RIZZ, GREEDFLATION, BLURSDAY, AI, FLUFFERNUTTER, ZHUZH, DOGGO, and every year more are added to reflect our changing language...reholder isn't really that far of a stretch to add.

Reholder is typically spelled with a hyphen as re-holder. There's nothing wrong with the computers or PCGS, the problem seems to lie in the English comprehension of otherwise intelligent Americans.

Scrabble lets you add words to its dictionary. Just add it.

Some versions, however, might not have that feature.

AI shouldn't be included in that dictionary, Scrabble has a rule against acronyms.

If there were no crackouts, there would be no reholders or reholdering.

You just have to buy the numismatists edition of Scrabble, where all of these words are legit.

Numismatist isn't in the scrabble dictionary because it has more than 8 letters. Also, my auto correct says that "numismatist" is not a word but "numismatic" is. :D

The computer beat the OP in Scrabble, but it was no match for him in kickboxing.
