Postcard Grading

Does anybody know the criteria PSA uses to determine if they will grade a postcard? I sent some in recently which they stated they would not grade or no spec info. Some were Dexter Press, JD McCarthy, and a few which I thought were team issued. Thanks in advance for the help!

Although SGC will grade them, I do know that PSA will not grade JD McCarthy postcards. I believe the reason being is that they were continually reissued over a number of years. PSA did grade my 1971 Dexter Press Johnny Bench, but they only included it in the option items section of Bench's master set. PSA indicated to me that there wasn't enough information on it. I thought that was odd since why did they even graded it all if they don't have enough information.

  • Thank you for the reply! These were Bench postcards as well. One was the McCarthy, so that explains it. Another was 1971 Dexter Press, but was indicated as no spec info, no grade, no charge. I have replied back to them to try getting it graded. Sent a different Dexter Press and a Reds from 1975 as well. Both are not being graded. I'll attach for info. Thanks again for the explanations and continue to love your Bench set!

Thank you. Great job in getting the 1975 Linnett Portrait Johnny Bench added to the master. I had the 1976 Portrait added a couple years ago and I didn't even realize that there was a 1975 version. Here are a couple of cards I am still waiting for PSA to get added to the set. Phil.

  • As always, very nice submissions! I will be sending in the full Pepsi insert as well soon for grading. Currently have the 1977 Pepsi with glove tab submitted to be added to the Master Set as well as the below O'Connell. Currently have a 1976 Hostess Twinkie Complete Panel, a Sportscaster UK version, and a 1983 Topps Stickers Full Strip. Always fun adding to the registry.

Great job with the new additions! It's always nice to see the set continue to evolve.

I thought I would share this in case you had one and thought about submitting. PSA won't grade the Johnny Bench Homeplate restaurant postcard, but SGC will.

  • Very nice and thank you for sharing! I do have one that I have wanted to have graded. Have never submitted to SGC yet, but may need to with this and the McCarthy postcard.

I picked a variation to the Johnny Bench Homeplate restaurant postcard that I was not aware of. If you look closely, Bench's face is different when you compare it to the other postcard I listed above. I recently had this graded by SGC.
