    RIP Bill Walton.

I remember, with awe, seeing him play for UCLA against Memphis State in the 1973 NCAA Title game. He had 44 points on 21-22 shooting. Had the referees not disallowed his 4 additional shots (viewed as dunks, which were not allowed at the time) he would have had 52 points on 25-26 shooting.

Sad to hear. He was a hero in Portland with the 77 ship he helped bring there. The city's only one.

2nd best athlete all-time from San Diego. We haven't had many, but Bill and Ted Williams are the Top-2.

    Rest in Peace Bill!

a shame. I very vaguely remember him as a player, mostly as a commentator for NBA during the 90s. I used to love listening to him

I also didnt know he was sick.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

very sad news. I, too, had no idea that he was sick.

    fun fact:

Bill (RIP) had a brother, Bruce (RIP), who played for the Cowboys in the mid-70s. primarily a backup o-lineman, his last game was Super Bowl X when Dallas lost 21-17 to Pittsburgh

only brother combination to play in the Super Bowl & NBA Finals

Many a time listening to Bill during a broadcast and him admitting to how much he loved getting high, it occurred to me that in order to understand Bill you need to be high like Bill. Whatever his indulgence was, some folks in this world could certainly use a dose or two.
