Memorial Day
I served in the 1st Infantry Division from Nov 1969 to Dec 1970.
As this time of year comes, I remember those long, long days, the friends I made and the experiences I had. I was very, very fortunate, "there but for the grace of God go I". There were times when I was very vulnerable, I guess it just wasn't my time.
For those who had relatives, or know someone who didn't make it home, pause for a moment to remember them. 58,000+ did not make it. My dear friend from Greenville, SC, Curtis Wuestenberg was in county only 3 months when he was killed. He was my best friend in OCS. I was his body escort from Dover Air Force base and Survivor Assistance Officer to his wonderful family.
There are no words to describe the joy of flying home and realizing I had "made it". Not every day you hear the pilot come over the intercom and say "ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to announce that we are now well beyond enemy gunfire.
ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL

Thank you for your service.
Thank you to all that have served.
I still tear-up whenever I hear our Star Spangled Banner.
To me it's not just words. It illustrates an event about those who fought gallantly for our new country. So that we can have the freedom and liberty which we enjoy today.
I thank them and all others who have served, and are serving now in defense of our great country.
I too want to wish all veterans of foreign wars and those of you that served in peacetime like me. I served in a peacetime role in the Marine corp from 1957 to 1960 so do know what it is like to be way from friends and family for extended periods of time at very young age. Thanks again for your service !
I never served, but listening to veterans stories and hearing the star spangled banner are a couple of the VERY few things in life that can get me a little weepy. I appreciate our country and those who bravely served it.
A VERY big thank you to all of our sports talk veterans.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
My father back in April 1969 Vietnam
He made it back with survivors guilt
Thank you to all who served
I know exactly how he feels. I have often wondered why them and not me. Pretty hard to describe unless you've been there during that time and had seen things nobody should have to see.
Tell your dad for me "welcome home"...we were pretty much the only ones who offered such a small gesture to each other...my family being the exclusion.
I will Al and thank you very much
