Not a clip - damaged
for PCGS. A 49+-Year PNG Member...A full numismatist since 1972, retired in 2022
Clips are one off errors not varieties. No one would "know" the coin although many of us have seen clipped planchets.
If genuine, it has some value but you will not get rich as it's tens of dollars not hundreds.
I don't see any sign of the Blakesley Effect on the opposite rim so it's not a mint error.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Not a clip error, it is damage, probably intentional to make it look like a clip.
Damage. Very little value in that condition.

Howdy and welcome to the boards.
Your images are fairly decent and your question quite good, but the coin appears to have been cut or shaved after it left the US Mint. Therefore, it would be considered post-mint damage (PMD).

I would change the title of the post. The coin in the picture is dated 1887, title is listed as 1987?
That's a different error altogether.
