Any winning bids in the Heritage Spring Sportscard Auction…

mintonlyplsmintonlypls Posts: 2,014 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was the winning bid on a 1954 Ernie Banks RC PSA-8. I will post it when I have it in hand. I had an extremely nice Banks RC which I sold to a Cubs fan on this board a few years ago…and have since regretted it. Not sure if this one is as nice…but I am happy to have his RC back in my collection.

Just a few of highlights. A beautiful 1952 Mantle SGC-7.5 sold for $564,000. Stan Musial cards sold for higher prices than recently. I recall a 1962 Musial PSA-9 recently sold for $5500…but a PSA-9 copy sold in this auction for $13,000+.
A 1960 and 1961 Musial PSA-9 blew past the estimate of $4k, selling for $12,000 each. A 1963 Bob Gibson PSA-9 sold for a record $9300. As far as unopened…a 1948 Bowman wax pack PSA-7 (1 of 4 in existence) sold for $138,000! Open at your own risk...and better hope there is at least one Musial, Berra, Spahn RCs PSA-9s in the pack.

Post any other highlights or winnings in this thread.

I was after some of the 70s unopened, but just lost interest quickly.

There were some nice items in that auction. Nice high grade cards and sets.

I was after the 56 mantle 5.5/10. I ended up with only a couple Clemente’s A 73 which was ok but I have a PSA 7 73 now and the 63 sgc which looked really nice for the grade.

That mantle went so much higher than I thought it would. I just couldn’t keep going. I had all my eggs in that basket planning on taking it and wish I would have bought a couple others. I thought a lot of the prices were good buys and I have regrets.

I agree on the sets; went after a few but no bargains to be had on the ones I bid on.

Regarding the complete sets, you have a few ebay sellers these days that buy them and relist card by card at crazy high prices.

Awesome Wynn rookie. The colors pop on that one.

For some reason photos are blurry. Will have to scan when in hand.

    Brad…

Three (3) outstanding pickups! The Johnston Cookies Aaron RC is exceptional for the assigned grade. Just an eye-popping stunning card! Congrats!

Picked up a few. But one of my favorites was this one. Got it for 33% less than the last one that was also sold on Heritage this past September.

Nice pickup. Surprised card not penalized for the discoloration in the upper right corner area.

Doesn't bother me in the least. I love the card.

That's the most important thing. Enjoy.
