I have a 1981 o-pee-chee hockey card complete set (396).
I haven't tried the PSA grade yet.
However, the cards are in perfect condition so I expect all cards to be higher than PSA 8. Some can even be 10.
I'm looking to sell this set.
Would it be a good idea to get some of the cards PSA graded and sell the set?
It costs a lot of money to get a PSA grade, so is this a good way to do it?
Or is there a better way?
thank you

Post photos of the best five cards in the set. After reviewing the photos you will get some good advice.
The cards look like they would be PSA 8s. I'm not sure if you're getting much of a premium at that level over selling it as a raw set. The commons certainly aren't worth grading if they're only going to be 8s. I would just list the set as Buy It Now on eBay for $800 and take anything close to that. Just my 2 cents.

Nice cards, but none will grade particularly high. I would sell ungraded and let some other guy be disappointed when he grades.
Welcome to the boards!
I'm guessing a 6 or 7 on your Gretzky. The bottom corners are touched quite a bit. Please remember that most people severely overgrade the first cards they want to send in. If it's a childhood set, there is a chance that none of them would grade a 10 if you sent in the entire set. You would probably get some 9's, and lots of 8's hopefully, and you'd also get some 7's, 6's, etc....

It’s just an average set (at best). Gretzky and Kurri would get a PSA 6 (maybe). Definitely not interested…
Its a very nice raw set, I would be happy to own it.
This issue has issues - in particular surface issues. The fronts are prone to bubbling, and the blue backs are brutal for showing corner wear. Also, graders can misinterpret rough cut for corner wear .
I have a bunch of these sets and you need an absolute blazer to get a 9 these days, in fact I buy new grade 6s of the gretzky that look like 8. And my nine would probably grade a 7/8 today.
Sad but true.
Hi, hello, how are ya?.........welcome........
