When PSA send you a request asking for more funds for a submission, do you know the grade?
Lets say you send in a card for grading at $39 and PSA the comes back requesting $499 ?

or have they not graded it and feel the card should be under that higher priced tier based on the PSA 10 FMV ? Then the grade is 4, 5 or 6 and the card's FMV is only $50 you are out $450+
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
I guess it could mean that you submitted it at the wrong service level initially, but usually when you get that email it means that the value of the card has risen higher than the service level you chose because of the grade it has received. I'm not sure if the grade is known to the submitter yet at that point since I've never gotten that email, but I do not think it is revealed yet to the submitter at the time of that email.
You can probably assume the grade in many cases but it’s before grades are available.
You get an email that says it does not qualify for the service level due to the graded card value.
Once I asked them what comps they used and they told me. Then I knew the exact grade.
It they are telling you it’s an upgrade then pay it and be thankful.
They usually tell you the grade. If was submitted at an incorrect level is a different story
I would think you did not submit at the correct service level as others have stated…and does not mean it is a higher grade than you expected or has been graded already.
I've never received an email from PSA regarding an upcharge for the grade or a CRC 'problem order' issue that wasn't clear to me what they were 'on about'. I'm hopeful this was just a hypothetical.
It was my first submittal , a 86 Jordan Fleer RC which I submitted for 20 day service at $39.
I got an e-mail back saying that they needed a couple hundred extra to complete the grading.
I was wondering when i would find out the grade?
Was supposed to be returned this week now they are saying June 12th?
I assume I undervalued it. I'm still learning the system here at PSA.
If I paid $499 for getting the card graded on my submission and it came back a PSA 1
would they tell me it's only $79 or so ?
Fred
,
That is the case, but I don't know the grade .. when and where can I find out the grade?
Respond to the email and ask them what they used to comp. Or just pay the upcharge and be happy. The $499 is super-express for non-members right? So that means up to $5K value right. That is probably meaning it's a 6 or 7 I suppose, but just ask if you want to know. They will tell you.
If they know the grade already why will it take 4 more weeks for the card to be sent back ?
I'll just a pay and see what happens.
Thanks
Here is another delima
I have a 2000 Bowman Tom Brady promotion card I picked up in a trade.
Majority of folks are telling me it's a fake.
I've done comparisons and can' find any faults.
Do I send it in for grading as a , about $500 value , 20 days for $39.99 card
or a about $50,000 value , 5 day at $1,499 ??
If it is a fake do I get the difference back ( ie. $1,499 - $39.99 ? )
I don't want "piss away" $1,400 plus dollars.
I could ask PSA directly, but I've asked the so many questions already before I found the Forum section..lololol
I'm sure that there is a wealth of knowledge here ..no ?
Why would anyone pay $1499 to get a card graded we it can be done for $39 with an upgrade charge if required?
Time is not of the essence
WTF was that??
Try to stay with the topic..please !!
First off, if you send it at a higher tier and it grades to a lower value (that would have allowed it to be submitted at a lower cost tier) you DO NOT get any money back/get charged less. Part of the service is not just the value, but also the speed at which they grade the card. The more you pay, the faster they grade it..
As for you Jordan rookie, you had no business sending it in at $39 and a declared value of $500 since the PSA 1 sells for over $1500! So you should have paid at least $75 but more legitimately $120 for 2.5k value. Now if they are asking you to pay $499, then it must be a PSA 8 as a PSA 7 is under $5k, so that would be only $249....
Now I'm curious what would happen if the card were fake or altered, as the PSA value would be zero, would they let you get away with only $39, when one submits it expecting at least a PSA 1 at $1500 value?
Do you get paid per post ?
Because if the submitter believes it has a legitimate chance of grading in the range, should the card get damaged by PSA or lost/damaged on return from PSA, you'd only be covered up to $500 instead of the true value. Even if you get up-charged, you will only get paid out the original DV you declared per the T&C's (but I believe refunded/not charged the grading fee). So it is a gamble in that sense.
If you submit as a <50K for $1499 and it is graded <$0.5K for $39 do they charge you the DV or the actual?
What ?
Is that St. Francis University ?
It was my first submission, and I didn't know how it worked. Other than insurance purposes, what is the issue sending in a Jordan RC at $39 vs. $75 or $120, you will pay the upgrading charge? Time is NOT of the essence.
IIm also curious about a 2000 Bowman Tom Brady promotion card I picked up in a trade.

Uh-oh. Chivalry has died.

Gobble.
A lot has changed since chivalry was codified – it’s good that it died.
Just remember, engaging in modern chivalry shouldn’t be about hoping for some reward or feeling somehow honor-bound to an antiquated code of conduct that you read about in some book.
It should be about doing the right thing.

I've read the code of conduct for this forum. It's not antiquated.

Reading and comprehending are two different things
As are tactical diversion and obedience.

NO...... You don't get anything back!
As for rolling the dice on the "insurance" aspect, I feel there is something in the T&C's with regards to intentionally undervaluing a card's DV when submitting. The assumption is that a card you submit is real, thus you should value it as such, and the min value of the jordan was $1500 in the worst possible condition. With regards to the ROY, you haven't posted any pictures of the actual card (since one you posted was jacked from a eBay listing I found)... I can't find any google links to fake versions of the ROY card, so don't know what to compare it too, but like I said, we still haven't seen your card, assuming your aren't full of Sh*t!!

If noting back, then no sense to over value and possibly lose money/!! There are several other ways to protect value.
You like little kid from Missouri,,.lololol
Why would I lie, I have no one to impress?
