The 1851-P is a difficult coin, several years ago when Dick Osburn was hoarding them it became almost impossible to find one for quite some time and the relative prices during that time reflected it, but after he released his hoard there was a period of availability, but they have once again started to be a little harder to find.

    I agree Southcounty…

…and even harder in original condition I think…

What are your thoughts on the quality of my 1851-P? A coin? B coin? B+? C+ ??

Interested in thoughts to quality of my coin from the group…?

The Philadelphia is a very nice coin and I like it better. The New Orleans is a little too white and shiny for my taste.

@skier07 - see trueview pics of the 51-O…

    It’s not white and shiny… you just gotta see it in-hand…. It’s s beauty…

Great 1851's all around! Love the black beauty. How about some Trueviews, Leeroy.

I stumbled into this VF35 checking out Heritage Auctions for the first time almost 16 years ago. Was Dick Osburn hording 51s back then? Anyway, I spotted this coin and had to have it. It was an exciting, rigorous experience bidding via the internet and winning this coin, and bidding $4K on the next coin (51-O in MS65) by accident.

Great looking coins! It took a bit of time some years back to find a fine.
